The highly-anticipated Blade Runner 2099 begins filming this summer with Michelle Yeoh as the lead character.

Sci-fi fans have one more reason to be excited this year. Prime Video has confirmed that its long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2099 starring Michelle Yeoh will begin filming this summer. The series promises to expand the Blade Runner universe with a new and exciting story.

This month, it was announced that Michelle Yeoh, best known for her roles in Everything, Everywhere, and Star Trek: Episode 31, will lead the cast of Prime Video’s new live-action limited series. Although plot and character details are being kept under wraps, Yeoh will reportedly play Olwen, who is “embedded at the end of her life.” Now Collider has released a big teaser for the production: filming will begin in June and continue until December, with locations confirmed in Prague and Spain.

Ridley Scott is executive producing the series with showrunner and screenwriter Silka Luisa (of Shining Girls fame) and Alcon Entertainment founders Kosov and Johnson, with Alcon head Michael Green (writer of Blade Runner 2049). Television, Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker and Clayton Kruger with Scott Fry, Cynthia York, Frank Giustra, Isa Dick Hackett, Tom Spezialy and Richard Sharkey. Jonathan Van Tuleken (Shogun director) will direct and also produce the first two episodes.
