The director revealed that DC Studios is stopping the Wonder Woman saga in its massive reboot.
Unexpectedly, Patty Jenkins, the mastermind behind the popular Wonder Woman franchise, has decided to stop any project related to the Amazonian heroine, for now. This news comes at a time of change and restructuring in the DC Cinematic Universe, leaving fans wondering about the future of their most beloved characters.

From a safe project to an indefinite stop
Before long, the idea of a third Wonder Woman installment seemed all but certain. After the phenomenal success of the first film, no one thought Warner Bros. No one can imagine that Discovery will pass up the opportunity to continue the story. However, the start of WW 1984 showed signs of both before and after. Hurt by both the pandemic and a less enthusiastic critical reception than its predecessor, the film failed to live up to expectations, prompting serious reflection on the future of the franchise.
News broke in December 2022 that Wonder Woman 3 would not happen, and in August 2023 the decision was made public. In a recent interview on the TCM/Max Talking Pictures podcast, Jenkins shared her thoughts on the current situation at DC Studios and her relationship with Wonder Woman. “Right now, Wonder Woman isn’t interested in doing anything,” Jenkins said. This revelation confirms that the DC Universe may be taking a different path under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, one that will not include the Warrior of Themyscira for the time being.
Between change and nostalgia
The Princess Saga of Themyscira resonated deeply with fans with its unique blend of Greek mythology and contemporary struggles, its ability to weave strength, compassion and justice. Gal Gadot’s performance as Diana Prince has been praised for capturing the essence of the heroine and inspiring the symbol of girl power as an ambassador for peace beyond the comic book pages to the big screen.

Comparing the Amazonian warrior to other characters in the DC universe shows a unique approach to the representation of the heroine, distinguishing herself from figures like Batman or Superman and focusing on emotions and human relationships. This diversity highlights the importance of having complex, multi-character stories in film, even during times of change and systematic review by studios. Wonder Woman is not just a superhero; It is often a symbol of human values in a divided world.
An uncertain but promising future
Despite this shift in focus, Jenkins is sympathetic to the complexities of Gunn and Safran. With a franchise as large and diverse as DC’s, charting a new course requires tough decisions and sometimes shelving favorite projects. However, this bracket in the Wonder Woman Saga doesn’t mean the end of Jenkins’ collaborations with major franchises. The director has hinted that she will be taking on the Rogue Squadron project in the Star Wars universe and returning to a galaxy far, far away. Wonder Woman may be resting, Jenkins is far from it, promising exciting adventures on the horizon.

The announcement that DC Studios is putting Wonder Woman on hiatus surprised many, but it left room for speculation and hope for the future. In a world of cinema where reboots and sequels are commonplace, could this hiatus be an interlude before a triumphant return? Only time will tell. In the meantime, fans can take solace in the promise of Jenkins’ new adventures, even if they take us from Themyscira and straight to the stars.
