Outer Banks Season 5 Has a Violent Start as EP Jonas Pate Reportedly Seizes PA

Filming of the fifth and final season of Netlflix Outer Banks resumed production after an on-set incident involving one of the show’s creators. Jonas Pate allegedly grabbed and shook one of the production assistants.

By VarietyPate was accused of putting his hands on a young woman who works on the Netflix series, grabbing her and shaking her while yelling in her face. Sources claimed that Outer Banks Star Chase Stokes witnessed the physical and verbal assault and immediately intervened to protect the AP. Star Madelyn Cline also intervened and helped defuse the situation. The series is currently filming its fifth season in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It debuted on Netflix in 2020, following a North Carolina community as two groups of teenagers search for lost treasure.

Although production got off to a rocky start with Pate’s alleged altercation, things appear to be continuing as normal on set. It was reported that production was not disrupted by the confrontation and that Pate continues to direct the film. He created the series with his brother Josh Pate and novelist Shannon Burke. Previous seasons have seen Pate typically direct six episodes per outing, usually including the first few episodes of a season as well as the finales.

Stokes and Cline, who both reportedly intervened during the on-set situation, are two of the main stars of Outer Banks playing John and Sarah respectively. Others in the series’ main cast include Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Austin North, Drew Starkey, Carlacia Grant, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane, and Cullen Moss.

The series explores the interesting divide in a coastal town where there is a serious social divide between wealthy seasonal residents (nicknamed Kooks) and working-class residents (called Pogues). Outer Banks looks at a group of Pogue teenagers determined to find out what happened to the group’s leaders’ missing father. Their adventures lead them to discover a legendary treasure linked to his disappearance, with the law and the Kooks soon preventing the group from obtaining the answers (and treasure) they seek.

Season 4 of Outer Banks was released in two parts on Netflix, in October and November 2024. Due to the continued success of the series, it was quickly renewed for a fifth and final season to give the story a chance to wrap up properly. For fans of the series, this ending could be the start of even more stories set in the small town.

Brothers Pate and Shannon Burke celebrated the Season 5 renewal, but also hinted that the series could continue even after its conclusion. “We’re excited about season 5 and we’re excited about other stories in this universe,” they said. No spin-offs or other related projects have been officially announced at this time.

The first four seasons of Outer Banks are now streaming on Netflix.
