Our final show runners show how many seasons they need to tell the whole story

Our Last Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman recently revealed details about the future of the series and how they plan to develop the story in the coming seasons.

In an interview with Deadline, it was revealed that the second season will only have seven episodes. However, the long-term plan is to tell the entire story in three more seasons. This means that if Our Last Day continues to be a success with viewers, the series could be renewed for a total of four seasons.

The expansion of the story in several seasons

The first season covers the events of the first game, but since there is so much content in the series, the creators decided to divide it into more seasons. Mazin explained: “The story content we got from Part II is much longer than the first game, so we had to figure out how to tell this story in different seasons from the first game.

“When you do that, you look for natural breaking points, and when you plan this season, it seems like the natural breaking point came after seven episodes.”

The 2nd season is short but powerful

Mazin also spoke about his decision to expand the story: “We don’t think we can tell the story even in two seasons[2 and 3]because we’re taking our time and finding interesting ways, and we’ve done a little bit.” The first season. “We definitely think we need a fourth season.”

The second season, which will only have seven episodes, is not a reflection of the lesser dedication. Mazin explained: “We want to reassure people that just because this season is a little shorter than the first, it doesn’t mean we’re taking a little time to tell the stories. “Because we want to give more time.”

“The story we’re telling is much bigger than Season 1, the stakes are higher, it’s harder to do, but we want every episode to feel like a blockbuster.”

A long-term view of the series

Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin emphasized that they would not go beyond the original game material. Mazin added: “As a fan, I’m excited about the possibility of a third game being our last. “As the co-creator of this television series, there’s no way I want our shows to go beyond the source material that people already know.

Mazin and Druckman also revealed that they mapped out the entire arc of the television series. Mazin said: “We have a clear concept of how it will work. “When you focus on a season, what naturally happens is you find that natural breaking point.”

For his part, Druckman made it clear that there was no filler in the series: “Our process was to outline several seasons, then dive into Season 2.” No filler, everything there is is intentional. We always have a goal in mind to move forward, we don’t take it easy.

The production of the second season

Production on the second season is underway and Mazin expressed his excitement: “I just finished the first full week of directing Season 2 Episode 1 and I couldn’t be happier or more excited. The size of this type is sometimes very large. And Season 3 promises to be just as big, if not bigger.

Pedro Pascal and Bela Ramsey return as Joel and Eli. Also returning are Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. The new cast includes Caitlin Dever as Abby, Isabella Merced as Dinah, Young Mazzino as Jessie, Ariella Barrer as Mel, Tati Gabriel as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Also, Catherine O’Hara will make a special appearance.

The second season is expected to debut in 2025, and promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats with every episode.
