Many fans are wondering what is behind Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, and now a new rumor reveals an important fact about this version of the character.
After it was revealed in the San Diego Comic Con What by Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom and he doesn’t like it Tony StarkMany fans have been left confused. Some think that the twist they have in store for us is that this version of the villain is simply an evil variant of Tony Stark, but others believe that they are telling the truth and that the popular actor will play the role Victor of Doom that we know of. Now a new report has been shared that claims to know where this Doctor Doom came from.
What’s Behind Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom?
Second Daniel Ricci, Doom comes from the same universe as the Fantastic Four from First Steps (the film starring the first Marvel family and due out in 2025). If the insider’s information is true, I think it makes more sense for Robert’s character to actually be Victor Von Doom, as it wouldn’t make much sense for the complicated relationship between Reed and Doom to be changed and for them to now replace the real Victor with an evil Tony.
If instead we think that this Doctor Doom is not the definitive one nor the one that will remain after the next films of Avengers, Wonder It would have already taken away one of the next Doom’s most important events (Secret Wars), not to mention that Robert Downey Jr.’s version would have been the main villain of two very important films. Therefore, if the later variant used was behind the previous one in terms of acceptance, this would be a problem. Wonder.
The studio has the option to change the actor after Secret Wars (in case they can’t keep paying Robert Downey Jr. so much money), the film could simply suggest that during the creation of the new Marvel Universe not everything will be the same and there will be changes there, which will make Doom different. They could also show that the villain had to take on a new body to survive after the events of Secret Wars.
At the moment, this is all pure speculation and we don’t know what Marvel is planning with Doom. Avengers: Judgment Day will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will arrive on May 7, 2027.
