Joaquin Phoenix explains why he decided to return as Arthur Fleck in Joker 2 in an interview with Empire magazine
Empire Magazine has published two new images of The Joker: Foley A Deux and Joaquin Phoenix explaining his reasons for returning for the sequel.
Why did Phoenix return?
In an interview with Empire, the famous actor pointed out the reasons that made him play Arthur Fleck again.
“This is the only way I can make films. If it doesn’t seem dangerous, if you don’t have much of a chance of getting worse, then… what’s the point?”
The film’s director, Todd Phillips, stepped in to expand on the star’s reaction.
“That was the reason for doing it. The only reason Joaquin would be a follower is if he’s afraid of him. One of the things he loved about the first movie was the dread, every day, that nagging dread of ‘What are we doing?’ That’s what it says. I didn’t want it to be easy. And in this he wanted to feel like fear. ‘Well, if I’m going to do it, I want it to feel like it can’t work,’ he says.
Joker 2 hits theaters on October 4, 2024.
