To shorten the wait, actor Brashad Mayweather hinted that seasons two and three of the first episode could be filmed back-to-back.

Ever since Netflix decided to make a live-action adaptation of One Piece, fans have followed every step of development with cautious optimism. After the undeniably successful first season of one of the most-watched originals on the platform, rumors of a sequel soon swirled. Recently, an interview with Brashad Mayweather for Patty’s Life hinted at production plans beyond the confirmed second season.

Mayweather’s vision

Amid the conversation, Mayweather shared some surprising details about the future of the series. Because they are filming two seasons – the second and the third – one after the other and will start soon. So we’ll see what happens,” opined the actor. This statement surprised the fan community, because, officially, Netflix only announced the production of the second season.

Although the news that One Piece could be filming two seasons of the series is a bold move by Netflix, there is still no official confirmation to support these claims. The platform has maintained a silence between the episodes of the series which will increase the speculations. Mayweather may be confused or misinformed, especially since Netflix has already announced a double production order for another adaptation, Avatar: The Last Airbender , out of the book.

Meanwhile, the One Piece community remains hopeful that the production of the second season, which covers the Alabasta saga, will live up to expectations. From Drum Island to Log Town, there’s plenty of content to explore, and with production set to begin this summer, eyes are on Netflix’s every move. June has already arrived, and with it, monkey D. The expectations of fans to see how some of the most interesting arcs in the history of Luffy will be adjusted, in search of the greatest treasure in the world, the legendary “One Piece”.

For those not yet familiar with One Piece, the story follows D Luffy, a young monkey who has been inspired by the stories of the gangster “Red Head” Shanks since childhood. Luffy’s life takes a dramatic turn when he accidentally ingests the gummy-gum Devil Fruit, which gives him the ability to stretch like rubber due to him losing his ability to swim. Years later, hoping to become King of the Pirates, Luffy embarks on a solo adventure by sailing a ship in search of the One Piece.

As summer approaches and production begins for the new season, fans’ anticipation only grows. Will Netflix confirm the rumors and announce a third season? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: Luffy and his crew’s adventure is far from over.

Other anime that Netflix can adapt

Netflix has shown a growing interest in expanding its live-action anime adaptation business, a strategy that could include highly anticipated titles by fans. Death Note has already seen a previous version, but rumors suggest that a new adaptation may be in development, hoping to redeem the criticism of the original. Another strong candidate is Naruto, a project that will undoubtedly attract a large audience with its large fan base.

If handled with proper care and balance, Attack on Titan is a title that will be a huge success for the platform. These projects could not only expand Netflix’s catalog, but also set a new standard in producing live-action anime adaptations.
