Monty Python and Magic have teamed up to create a special set of cards themed around their movie The Holy Grail.

Legendary fantasy comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail team up for an exciting new collaboration from the world-famous card game Magic: The Gathering. Available through the Secret Lair program starting July 29, this limited-edition card features scenes from the film and memorable characters, giving fans a fun and nostalgic experience.

The magic of Monty Python

Fans of both Monty Python and Magic: The Gathering will be delighted by this news. This special collaboration features a total of eight cards, each reimagining classic Magic cards with new art inspired by some of 1975’s most memorable jokes and scenes.

Featured cards include ‘Tis But a Scratch’, depicting a comical battle between King Arthur and the Black Knight, and Get Your Dead Out!, featuring a corpse collector who refuses to respond. Additionally, we have the Bridge of Death, where the bridge keeper seeks answers to three questions, and Sir Bedivere, who moderates the witch trials.

This edition not only celebrates the absurd humor and creativity of Monty Python, but also introduces new magicians to the magic of this classic comedy. The set is available in both regular and foil versions, and a limited number of foil cards will also be offered at the Hasbro Pulse booth at San Diego Comic-Con.

What is the sacrament?

The film Holy Grail, an extension of the popular BBC sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, is the comedy team’s second film and now for something completely different. Directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, the film presents a realistic and absurd version of the quest for the Holy Grail by King Arthur and his knights.

Throughout the film, Arturo and his knights encounter various comical and anachronistic situations, including the famous scene where they “ride” without a horse and use coconut shells to mimic the sound of hooves. The film was well-received upon release, and Spamalot, created by Eric Idle, was later adapted into a Broadway musical and even became a cult classic.

Limited edition for collectors

The Holy Grail card set isn’t Magic’s first Secret Lair collaboration. Other special editions have included crossovers with Stranger Things, The Princess Bride, and The Walking Dead, among others. However, this issue stands out for its unique combination of humor and fantasy.

A card based on Magic’s Prodigal Sorcerer, Tom the Enchanter is a perfect example of how this collaboration combines the best of both worlds. Magic fans already nicknamed the original card “Tim the Enchanter”, making this new version a natural and long-awaited addition.
