Matthew Vaughn presented his idea for a Superman movie starring Henry Cavill

Matthew Vaughn would be interested in directing a Superman movie outside of James Gunn’s DC universe

Director Matthew Vaughn wants to make a Superman movie outside the DCU with Henry Cavill.

The story of the red boy brought to the cinema

If James Gunn is to be believed, the DC brand will not only produce projects that are part of the DCU, but also release independent stories under the “Elseworlds” label. Anything released by that label will be out of the continuity that Gunn is building. For example, The Batman – Part II by Matt Reeves and Joker: Folie à Deux by Todd Phillips are not in the DCU.

Now, we don’t know if Gunn will continue to have these types of projects after the aforementioned films are released, or when the Reeves universe ends. Because of this, DC fans have every reason not to fully trust the filmmaker, as various films and series were already in the studio’s plans when he came to dominate the DCU.

However, if it’s possible to make a standalone story about Superman, Matthew Vaughn already has an idea. The director’s proposal is to make a Man of Steel movie starring Cavill and an adaptation of Red Son.

This comic shows Clark landing in the Soviet Union, not Kansas. Therefore, the boy grows up under the influence and control of the Soviet government, so the hero does not fight for truth and justice, but for Stalin, socialism and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.

Not to mention that Warner Bros. isn’t in a good time to be at the center of a controversy, I find it unlikely that they’ll be bringing a story like this to cinemas any time soon. The best they can do is try to produce the best they can with Superman: Legacy and focus on building a well-connected and interesting DC universe.
