X-Men 97 was left without its creator.

Beau DeMayo, creator of the X-Men 97 series, has been fired by Marvel.

Kevin Feige’s purge continues.

X-Men 97 serves as the sequel to the popular 1990s animated show, and will be under the Marvel Animation banner. Many fans have been eagerly anticipating the series premiere, but a week after its arrival on Disney+, news has come out that should have us worried.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beau DeMayo was fired by Marvel just a week before the debut of the Mutants show on Disney+. DeMaio’s social media accounts have been deactivated as DeMaio prepares to promote the project this week, and the studio has yet to say why he was fired.

Season 2 of X-Men 97 is already in development, so DeMayo will continue to get credit for a while. However, if Marvel wants the series to have more than two seasons, they need to start looking for a new show runner.

The first two episodes will be available on Disney+ on March 20.
