Marvel Omnibus review. Gerry Duggan Massacre 6 – All good things come to an end

The death of Wade Wilson

The healing factor of Massacrethe same size as that of Gluttonmakes him a practically invincible being. This fact gave us a character who tends to care about his physical well-being as much as a cartoon, his carefree attitude being an intrinsic characteristic of him. Unfortunately, death finds a way to claim the souls of even the most resistant factor, healing or otherwise. Even the massacre.

After a narrative arc in which the Middle East has its importance which will serve as the final stretch to the tragic outcome of our protagonist and which will have as its last villain Arkady Rossovichthe KGB version of the Captain America better known as Omega Redwe reach the culmination of this volume. As has happened in all Marvel Universe collections, the Secret Wars event put an end to all the plots that were developing in the publisher’s continuity, and this one was no exception.

The criminal organization Ultimatum will play a key role in this outcome, thus closing a circle for Duggan as well Shiklahthe succubus known as Queen of the undead in the past and as a lady Dead Pool in the present after the biggest wedding in comic book history. And with them we arrive at the special number 250 of the series, which in addition to the ending announced for Wade will have many stories written by guest screenwriters.

Mrs. Massacre and the Howling Commandos

To finish the volume we have a series framed within the Secret Wars event starring Shiklah. In this reality Wade died at the hands of Draculathen his beloved is threatened by the vampire who desires a marriage between them. Those responsible are the called ones Aullador Commandsthan in this Battle world are made up of WerewolfTHE Mummythe monster FrankensteinHim Man-thing and the Minotaur Marcuswho has a symbiote attached to his body.

The story works independently from the rest of the series that mushroomed around this event, and the truth is that it retains the tone and quality of the Mercenary with a Mouth collection. Among other things, obviously the protagonist of this series cannot remain out of focus for long even if he is dead, so it won’t take long to see him in this adventure, even if in a more ectoplasmic way than normal. ..

A long road to the grave

It was a very fun trip in which Duggan, accompanied by his usual companions in misdeeds such as Brian Posehn, Salva Espín or Scott Koblish to name the most important ones, it took. After more than four dozen issues since his debut, Wade finally hangs up his mask, leaving behind one of the brightest phases of his career.

This volume is the icing that crowns a five-tiered cake, volume per tier. It is difficult to find a stage for the character as long, coherent, homogeneous and round as this one. This is the compilation that every Massacre fan should have on their shelf.

As for the magnificent edition, this luxury volume published by Panini Comics in the hard cover contains 280 pages in color with a size of 18.3 x 27.7 cm. and includes the translation of Uriel Lopez from the American edition of issues n.41 to n.44 (and the special n.250) of Dead Pool and the 4 issues that make up the limited series Secret Wars: Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos.

Additionally, this deluxe edition includes an introduction written by Bruno Orive under the title of It’s the end of the world as we know it (and I feel good) and a gallery of alternative covers. The recommended retail price of this volume is €35 and was put up for sale in September 2024.
