There is a lot of talk about the events that happened in Marvel Comics in the last decade and how they ruined the progress of the local series by invading their plots for two or three months, but it is worth remembering from time to time. This already happened in the early nineties. Panini Comics now collects them in a volume titled Marvel Heroes. Warrior and superheroes
Maybe the year It may be difficult to see the reflection in 2024, but at the time the title of this event was before Operation Desert Storm, when the United States took Kuwait from Saddam Hussein and the Iraqis. It may not have been the best idea the thinking minds of La Casa de las Ideas had, but one has to admire and applaud the critical tone shown by the writers who stand here regarding the actions of their government. .
But luckily, the plot here doesn’t take us to a group of heroes invading a Middle Eastern country to bring democracy there and liberate its oppressed citizens, whipping up the stars and the flag. To understand what we are told here, we must remember one of the most important events in the history of the Avengers team, the Kree-Skrull war, which is used here as an inspiration.
Here we see an atypical formation of a group of the most powerful heroes on Earth, almost unexpectedly participating in a conflict light years away from their planet, and clashing with the Kree Empire with the Shi’ar Empire. The progression of the show is increasing, and the story may escape the hands of the writers to some extent, but overall it will be a well-constructed, developed and successfully closed story…
From series to series
In this event, we’re not talking about a central series and some tie-in, as is often the case in the 21st century, but instead we’re talking about the story told in various publisher titles. Maybe this was clever for die-hard Marvel Comics followers, but of course it had to be a real bummer for those who follow one or two of these series.
Virtually every series that has had one of the Avengers as a protagonist has been involved in this initiative, which began in a dramatic and beautiful way: the Krai’s invasion of the planet to abduct none other than Rick Jones, something Steve helped out with. Rogers joined the party right from the start…
As Quasar and Wonder Man enter the plot (later Iron Man and Thor arrive) they shout, “Rounders, assemble!” It seems like the right time to say. Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the plot revolves around the team coming together to face a threat that no one can do alone.
This peacekeeping force on Earth aims to prevent galactic-scale destruction, and to do so, they split their forces to control three fronts: Captain America tries to work with the Kree, and Monica Rambeau does the same with the Shi’ar. And the third group will stay to defend the earth.
The most interesting part of the story is the moral decisions our heroes are forced to make, without a doubt making the reader question whether or not these are morally right. Regardless of everyone’s opinion, there is no doubt about how bold and daring the proposal is. There was no controversy in this regard, but fortunately for all those involved in those times, there were still no social networks …
History for history
Although there aren’t any good values to highlight in these comics beyond the ones already mentioned, the truth is that it ends up being fun to watch as a popular episode in the history of the Marvel Universe. True, at the level of some writers, a mix of young new talent and established veterans, anything else would have been unreasonable.
We are talking about people like Bob Harras, Greg Capullo, Steve Epting, Roy Thomas, Mark Gruweld or Tom DeFalco among many others. It’s positively amazing that the direction of the saga with so many bosses is consistent from start to finish, and that it breathes like a linear story despite the shocks caused by the changes in the artist team.
