G. Willow Wilson, along with several authors, formed the Avengers team, V-Force, made up of the most powerful women in the Marvel Universe, and now Panini Comics collects this entire series in a deluxe volume.
Throughout the history of Marvel Comics, the publisher has always been concerned with being at the forefront of social movements, but despite that laudable effort, it sometimes seems that some things take too long to become mainstream. The role of women in the Marvel universe has been relegated to a discreet secondary role for many years, but that will change forever some time ago. Fuerza V was proof of a trend changer, and now Panini Comics collects the adventures of this team in the volume Marvel Deluxe Fuerza V: The Comprehensive.
G Willow Wilson empoderada
In the year It was only a few years before #MeToo arrived in 2015 and the women’s empowerment movement began to spread widely throughout the West, but in Lacasa Delas, ideas began to take on their feminine characteristics long ago. A role reserved exclusively for male superheroes, with few exceptions.
G. Willow Wilson was recognized at the time (especially by the success of Ms. Marvel) and her skills were more than any ideology, she was committed to the cause of women. With a new all-female Avengers lineup, she seems like the obvious choice for now.
To support her with script work, she added another writer of note, Marguerite Bennett, to the team. The team formed by both left the series that was well received by critics and the public to make way for a third screenwriter, in this case Kelly Thompson, the follower of many Brian Michael Bendis. This closes the series, where the script has always been written by women, passing through three different pairs of hands. Unfortunately, this is very rare.
Island Secret Wars…
The birth of this group is strongly linked to the phenomenon we know as the Secret Wars (from Jonathan Hickman and Isad Ribic, not from the 20th century). On an island called Arcadia, which at the time was part of the Battleground universe, where the entire Marvel Universe was included, the group responsible for protecting its citizens was called Force V, and its unique feature was that they were all members. They are women.
They managed to turn this land into a utopian peace, but this state will not last long, otherwise this comic will be a bit boring, right? In this reality, a border conflict with the absolute leader, Dr. Doom’s government, will ultimately lead to the exile of Chavez in the United States and the birth of a Hulka-led rebellion that will change that world forever.
We soon learn that perhaps all is not as it seems, and that a conspiracy has been hatched to overthrow the Arcadian government, which has been designed from the shadows. Wilson and Bennett make good use of the wide range of characters that fill this plot (one can even be too wide, as seen on the audio cover) to relate the subplots that comprise it. History.
In the graphic department, Jorge Molina and Laura Martin are responsible for taking this group of heroes to the great final battle that is expected with great talent. .
616 to earth
In Arcadia, we are introduced to the Singularity, a mysterious female body; She was first introduced to a society that was alien to her and then sacrificed herself for her new friends as a hunter. But after Battleworld ceases to exist, the Singularity’s only memory will be the remains of Arcadia on Earth 616.
Unfortunately, her former colleagues may not know anything about her when their paths cross, and considering we’re not exactly talking about the same people, that’s normal. Even so, Medusa, Captain Marvel, Nico Minoru, Dazzler, and She-Hulk team up with her when it’s time to face the Antimatter, a being that is the dark opposite of the Singularity.
In the graphic department, we start this new journey with the same team as the previous arc, but soon there will be a very interesting replacement and Ben Caldwell will take the baton, offering a more youthful and fun approach with a certain cartoon touch. It makes everything visually fresher and more attractive, turning the pages into the perfect volume, almost like painting.
As the series deals with the events of Civil War II (which kind of destroys the regular series), we’ll switch again to have a different artist. Paulo Siqueira does a great job with a realistic approach, the quality of which is slightly reduced due to Rachel Rosenberg’s use of color gradients that are overly artificial.
In short, here’s an entire collection clearly divided into two phases, the first being more rounded, but it’s in the second that we probably get the best moments (and the worst). It’s a great opportunity to see the publisher’s most important female characters fully star in their own series and establish rare team dynamics in what we hope will be the first wave of professional female comics written by three screenwriters. As the years go by, it grows…
Published by Panini Comics in hardcover, the volume contains 368 color pages measuring 17 x 26 cm. And the American edition includes translations of the five issues of Secret Wars: A-Force, ten issues of A-Force and Avengers #0, in addition to covers from all issues included, an introduction by Lydia Castillo, and an extensive gallery of alternate covers at the end. It has a recommended retail price of €42 and goes on sale in January 2024.
