Luke Evans is set to take the lead role in Prime Video’s adaptation of the Brubaker & Phillips crime comic.
Ever since the live-action adaptation of the crime series was announced, expectations have been rising due to the quality of the cast. Evans will play Tracy Lawless, a complex character with a rich backstory, according to various reports.
The long awaited Prime Video adaptation
According to the legal description: “Tracy Lawless is removed from her family’s life of crime (her father is the infamous Tag Lawless and Ricky (Gus Halper) is her younger brother) at the age of 18 when a judge gives her the choice between prison or the Army.” In the military, Tracy grew by channeling his violent instincts into strict military discipline. He was stationed in the Special Forces and trained to be an expert in covert operations and guerrilla warfare. But underneath it all, the illegal blood runs through his heart.
The inclusion of Luke Evans elevates the impressive cast, which includes Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under), Adria Arjona (Hit the Man, Andor), Pat Healy ( Better Call Saul), Taylor Seeley (BMF), John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country), Gus Halper (Rustin), Aaliyah Camacho (Doctor Strange in the Multiplex), Michael Mando (Better Call Saul), Marvin Jones III ( Halo), Michael Xavier (Wild Cards) and Dominic Burgess (Palm Royale).
Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, considered by many to be one of the most iconic teams in comic history, are behind this project as executive producers. Brubaker wrote the script for the pilot episode and co-stars with acclaimed crime novelist Jordan Harper (Hightown, Gotham, The Mindset). Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Captain Marvel, Masters of the Air) have been tapped to direct the first four episodes, and they’ll be doing their thing.
The legacy of Brubaker and Phillips
Brubaker and Phillips created a series that left their mark on the comedy world, including titles such as The Fade Out, Kill or Be Killed, Reckless and Pulp. His crime series is a bestseller and has been translated into more than a dozen languages, gaining prominence in the international market.
In addition to creating the Winter Soldier character, Brubaker has also worked on key story arcs for Marvel and DC Comics, writing for characters such as Batman, Catwoman, The Immortal Iron Fist and Captain America. Harper, on the other hand, is the recipient of award-winning works such as She Rides Shotgun, adapted into a film with Taron Egerton and Everybody Knows, one of the best New York crime novels of the year. The dream team behind the series

The crime series on Prime Video has a strong production team. In addition to Brubaker and Harper, Sean Phillips, Sarah Carbiner and Philip Barnett will serve as executive producers. Legend Television will play a major role in the production along with Amazon’s MGM Studios.
With a stellar cast and a first-rate creative team, the crime adaptation promises to be a smash hit, bringing the graphic novel series’ trademark intensity and depth to the screen. Fans of Brubaker and Phillips, as well as those who love crime and mystery stories, have a lot to look forward to from this new Prime Video production.
