Indira Varma talks about the end of Creature Commandos and her future in the DCU as The Bride

The actress who plays The Bride in Max’s animated series Creature Commandos reflects on the season finale and her possible future in live-action

THE first season of Commando of creaturesthe new animated series for adults created by James Gunncame to an end with Max, leaving fans with emotions on the surface. The final episode not only explored the more human side of the Bride, but also marked a turning point in his role as the leader of this peculiar group of misfit monsters.

The evolution of The Bride in the season finale

Throughout the season, The Bride, played masterfully by Indira Varma, has gone from being a cynical and misanthropic figure to a person capable of recognizing her own humanity.. This change is largely due to his friendship with Nina Mazursky (voiced by Zoe Chao), a teammate whose kindness clashed with the Bride’s negative attitude.

However, Nina’s fate was tragic.. During an attempt to eliminate evil Princess Ilana (Maria Bakalova), Nina has been murdered, leaving the bride devastated. In Varma’s words, this moment was crucial to the character’s development:

“Zoe brought so much sweetness to Nina that she was the perfect foil to the Bride’s sarcasm and ‘everything’s bullshit’ attitude. I hope the ending was a great closure to that dynamic, because it’s when Nina is in danger that it all makes sense. It’s like an awakening for The Bride: she realizes that she can be more than just a killing machine.

A complicated relationship with Eric Frankenstein

Another highlight of the season was the The bride’s uncomfortable relationship with Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour), who doesn’t seem to accept a “no” as an answer. While this tension has not been resolved, Varma sees potential to explore this connection in the future:

“It would be interesting to see how unrequited love can turn into something mutual. This could provide a very strong emotional touch. I think there’s more story to tell with her. “We have seen glimpses of his human soul, and perhaps in the future he will be able to overcome his trauma and look at the world with different eyes.”

The Bride in live-action?

Before possibility of playing The Bride in a live action versionVarma doesn’t hesitate for a second: “Of course! Have you seen what he looks like? “It’s amazing.”

This idea doesn’t seem far-fetched, especially considering the James Gunn’s planes to integrate animated and live-action characters within the new DC Studios universe. Gunn has already announced that the The actors who voice the animated characters will also play them in live-action.
