However, Dragon BallGoku and Vegeta’s obsession ultimately limited the series in significant ways, which could be improved by removing Goku and Vegeta from the spotlight for good.
Dragon Ball went as far as it could with Goku and Vegeta
It’s incredibly rewarding to watch Dragon BallHeroes continually exceed their limits and harness new levels of power. This has been especially true for Goku and Vegeta, who have experienced more transformations than the rest of the world. Dragon Ball‘s cast. Goku and Vegeta continually move closer to Super Saiyan milestones, which are pushed to new heights in Dragon Ball Super after the introduction of divine ki. Ultra Ego Vegeta, combined with powers like Sphere of Destruction and Hakai, essentially makes this his Destroyer form. Goku and Vegeta have never been more powerful than in these states, but it also leaves fans wondering where they can realistically go from here. This is a natural problem for any long-running series, as the temptation to continually retroactively outdo new transformations makes predecessors less impressive.
Fans would inevitably roll their eyes if Goku suddenly exploited “Super Saiyan 5” or “Ultra Mega Instinct”. At the same time, there would be a certain level of frustration if they were never allowed to experience a new transformation. A permanent death for these characters is a solution to all of this that limits their current strength without having to worry about what might come next. Deaths do not need to be considered losses and a scenario where Goku and Vegeta were willing to engage in them would help maintain the integrity of Dragon BallThe established transformations.
Goku and Vegeta’s Absence Would Celebrate Other Characters and Reset the Stakes
Dragon Ballhowever creative and ambitious he may be, he is guilty of falling into patterns and taking the easy way out of certain situations. Granted, this can be a self-fulfilling prophecy that becomes increasingly difficult to shake off over time. Dragon BallThe trend of putting Goku and Vegeta in the spotlight means that they are the ones continually growing stronger, while the rest of the heroes stagnate. A scenario in which Goku and Vegeta die and remain that way would naturally create a power vacuum in which other heroes would have the opportunity to shine. Dragon Ball Super‘s Super Hero Saga found great success with this trend by telling a story centered around Gohan and Piccolo, with Goku and Vegeta barely present. The audience’s warm reception to this approach left fans hopeful that more films and storylines would allow the supporting cast to shine. Although it hasn’t happened yet, it would be inevitable if Goku and Vegeta disappeared for good.
Additionally, the superhero saga would become even stronger in retrospect if this wasn’t an isolated incident but rather the start of a larger arc that pushes Goku and Vegeta out while other characters take over. The superhero saga proved that Gohan and Piccolo are more prepared than ever to become Earth’s new heroes, while also helping Goten and Trunks grow in that regard. It would be satisfying for Goten and Trunks to do more, but it could also be an exciting opportunity for more humans, like Tien, Master Roshi, and Krillin, to flourish with new power boosts.
The opportunity for side characters to be tested and challenged is an interesting development after Goku and Vegeta’s permanent deaths. Above all, this orientation helps establish a new status quo and could make death feel more important in the future. Dragon Ball. There have been too many loopholes to circumvent the consequences of death and a new standard that engages Goku and Vegeta’s absence would trump the entire shaky power scale and set a baseline for the endgame with Black Frieza.
The deaths of Goku and Vegeta open them to new roles as universal guardians
Dragon Ball Super pushes Goku and Vegeta to such powerful heights that they are essentially on par with the gods at this point. Both Goku and Vegeta rebuke Beerus’ formal offer to become a God of Destruction, but this does not stop them from training under Beerus and Whis. In Vegeta’s case, he actually masters many of the basics of the God of Destruction and gains the same power, for all intents and purposes. There would be a certain poetic symmetry in a Dragon Ball Super conclusion where Goku and Vegeta perish, to become Universe 7’s new angel and god of destruction. This has been teased, but Dragon Ball refused to commit to this idea and the seismic change it would cause.
This storyline would be the best way to incorporate the deaths of Goku and Vegeta into the series. Just because they’re dead doesn’t mean they have to disappear from the franchise. It would make for a cathartic conclusion if these former rivals become this yin/yang force that maintains the balance of the universe. Rotating Goku and Vegeta into supportive guardian roles would celebrate how far they’ve come, but also the fact that they’re at their best as a team. This would be the purest version of this, while also providing space for others Dragon Ball characters to shine.
