New reports claim that an HBO Max show that has been in development for several years has been canceled

According to reports, the program is for Justice League Dark by JJ Abrams on HBO Max has been cancelled. Originally, this project was intended to be a movie, but after years without seeing any major progress, the studio turned it into a show for HBO Max, with Abrams serving as executive producer. The plan was to establish a new film and television universe based on the Justice League Dark characters.

For a long time the state of the project was a mystery, and now, The Hollywood Reporter reveals it HBO Max would have ruled out Justice League Dark. Currently, none of those involved in the program have commented on the report.

Given the lack of information, the cancellation of Abrams’ Justice League Dark universe shouldn’t come as a surprise. It also wouldn’t be the first time a project has been scrapped for a new version of certain characters to go in a different direction as part of DC Studios. The series Green Lantern by Greg Berlanti was discarded, ago DC Studios now working in Lantern as a new program DCU. The cancellation of Justice League Dark from HBO Max may be because James Gunn plans to use these characters for his universe.
