The 12th season of Futurama will be packed with 10 exciting episodes that promise to surprise fans.
Futurama, the popular animated sci-fi comedy series, returns to our screens with its 12th season, premiering on Hulu at the end of July. Ahead of the highly anticipated release, showrunner and head writer David X Cohen shared some juicy details on what fans can expect from this new episode.

Cohen promises a strong start to the season. “The season kicks off with big, epic episodes,” he told Animation Magazine. “In the premiere, Bender emotionally returns to his ancestral Mexican robot village and Danny Trejo makes a beautiful appearance as Bender’s cousin Doblando. And the second episode is a monster of a ‘quid game’, with no fewer than 34 of your favorite Futurama characters attending a reunion party for Free’s eighth birthday party. Only this time, party games are played to the death.
Cohen noted that writers continue to tend to address current issues. “One of my favorites of the upcoming season explores the bleak future of fast fashion, with a truly wonderful lead role for Cara Delevingne,” he said. “And of course artificial intelligence is still a big topic in the 31st century, because Lila befriends an AI chatbot that suffers from some major programming errors. And I don’t know if this is exactly contemporary, but we’re going to explore the story of Brown’s fantastic science fiction.
Recently, the Futurama season 12 trailer was released, featuring new images from all 10 episodes. The official synopsis reads: “On this journey around the sun, our team of heroes have occasional mind-blowing adventures, including games to the death at a birthday party, Bender’s ancestral robot village, AI friends (and enemies), mysteries, and impossibly cute beanbag chairs. The 5 million-year-old true story behind the consciousness-altering substance called coffee. And, of course, the next chapter in the romance between Fry and Leela is full of time warps.
A series with history
Futurama was originally created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company while working on The Simpsons. He then teamed up with Cohen to develop the characters and create the premise of the series, “The Adventures of Lazy Philip J. Fry, who was cryogenically preserved for 1,000 years and revived on December 31, 2999.” Fry got a job at Interplanetary Supply. After being canceled by Fox, Futurama continued to air on Cartoon Network’s adult prime from 2003 to 2007.
