Furiosa’s disappointing box office put the next Mad Max project in jeopardy.

The Mad Max universe may end with Furiosa after the George Miller film’s poor performance in theaters.

George Miller, the man behind the Mad Max saga, has long revealed that he wrote detailed stories about Max and Furiosa with his creative team while developing Fury Road. However, the filmmaker is yet to use the story he has written for the main character of the franchise. For this reason, the director has already confirmed that he is preparing Mad Max: The Starland, but after the disappointment at the box office called Furiosa, this project may be in jeopardy.

Could George Miller make The Wasteland?

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Furiosa’s disappointing opening weekend threatens the future of the saga, and specifically The Starland. In fact, the media reports that the project was not yet in development.

The Wasteland follows Max a year before Fury Road and the story is said to involve a young mother and feature a lot of action.

Furosa box office

Although Furiosa received very good reviews, the film initially debuted at the box office. On a budget of $168 million, the film grossed just $32 million over the Memorial Day weekend in the US and $64.8 million worldwide in its first four days. Currently, Furiosa has collected 69.9 million.
