Netflix’s Cobra Kai universe may expand after its sixth season
Cobra Kai could be extended beyond the program Netflix Thanks to new projects.
In an interview with Deadline, Katherine PopeChairman of Sony Pictures Television Studioscommented how the next film of The Karate Kid could continue his story in future film or television projects. “They have some ideas in terms of expanding Cobra Kai and reaching into the Karate Kid legacy in different ways,” Pope noted. I think we’ve all learned that these worlds can co-exist, and they can feel cohesive, and they can feel additive, especially for fans, and they feel like big, big worlds that exist on many different levels; they don’t necessarily all exist on the same plane.”
In September 2022, Sony announced that another installment of the Karate Kid saga was in development. One of the showrunners of Cobra Kai, Jon Hurwitzassured that those responsible for the series are not involved in the next Karate Kid movie.
Although there are plans to expand this universe, Netflix announced that the show would end with season 6. All five seasons of Cobra Kai are available on Netflix. The untitled Karate Kid movie opens in theaters on June 7, 2024.
