Marvel Animation takes the reins with two unique series that explore the dark and heroic side of the universe with Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies
Marvel Animation continues to bet big with two new four-episode series arriving this year: Eyes of Wakanda Yes Marvel Zombies. Each offers us exciting and completely different perspectives from what we’ve seen so far in the MCU.
Pure espionage
Eyes of Wakanda will focus on the elite group known as the Hatut Zaraze, a sort of “CIA” of Wakanda who carries out secret missions to protect the country’s secrets. Each episode will take us to a different time and place, following these warriors as they fight to recover stolen vibranium artifacts and keep the nation’s enemies at bay.
The head of Marvel Television described the group as one whose loyalties are constantly tested: “They must keep Wakanda’s secrets well guarded while facing the challenges posed by an unknown outside world”.
Animation is presented as the ideal medium for this type of ambitious narrative. According to showrunner Todd Harris, “Animation allows us to recreate impossible places as easily as we make them”. From Egypt to New York or even the moon, this creative freedom lets you explore an idealized Wakanda without the limitations of the real world.
The cast includes big names like Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams Yes Anika Noni Rosewhich will bring these characters to life in a story full of action and mystery.
Marvel Zombies, the chaos continues
On the other hand, Marvel Zombies is positioned as a direct sequel to the iconic episode of What If…? who explored a world ravaged by a zombie virus. The series, described as a “mini-cinematic event,” will have a much darker and more adult tone, with a TV-MA rating that promises intense scenes and uncensored storytelling.
Showrunner Bryan Andrews revealed that the series seeks “raises the level of the original episode with an even wilder and more visceral story”. Furthermore, he confirmed that the project has a luxury cast, including Elizabeth Olsen, Simu Liu, Hailee SteinfeldYes Florence Pugh. There will also be a surprise that will excite fans: the return of Zombie Captain Americawho will be the protagonist of an epic fight with another main character.
Two animated universes that expand the magic of the MCU
In addition to its innovative approach, Eyes of Wakanda gives us a deeper insight into the Zaraze hatsa group that has not been widely explored in cinema. Although they first appeared in comics in the 1990s, this team remained in the shadow of Wakanda’s throne for years. They function as secret guardians of the kingdomthe Hatut Zaraze are responsible for protecting Wakanda’s sovereignty, even when their methods conflict with T’Challa’s ideals. The series promises to highlight their evolution and the ethical decisions they face in their loyalty to the kingdom.
On the other hand, Marvel Zombies is inspired by the popular comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman. The difference is in how this adaptation combines the file dark zombie narrative with the heroic elements of the MCUpushing the characters to the limits of their humanity as they face an apocalyptic threat.
A unique animated experience
The arrival of these series on August 6 (Eyes of Wakanda) and October 3 (Marvel Zombies) reinforces Marvel’s commitment to exploring new narrative frontiers through animation. Fans of espionage and action, as well as lovers of horror and mayhem, will have something to look forward to this year.
