Will X-Men be the next big addition to the MCU? ‘The Marvels’ drops hints that fuel speculations from teasers to the film’s music.
It looks like the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe is setting the stage for one of the most anticipated additions to fans, X-Men. The creative team behind “The Marvels” has hinted at possible interactions with the iconic group of mutants in this new chapter of the saga.
For the X-Men in “The Marvels”.
In an interview with ScreenRant, the film’s director, Nia DaCosta, along with executive producer Mary Livanos and composer Laura Karpman, discussed speculation about the X-Men’s involvement in “The Marvels.” The film’s production notes featured references to songs from two X-Men sequels, “X-Men 2” and “Days of Future Past.”
When asked if the music is part of the broader relationship with the X-Men in the Captain Marvel series, the trio offered vague answers. DaCosta commented: “Yeah, well, I love the X-Men too. I think it’s one of the best superhero movies of all time. It is truly special and holds a special place in my heart. But I didn’t consciously reference the music for that. But I think Laura was probably inspired that way.
This exciting chapter in the MCU not only hints at a relationship between “The Incredibles” and the X-Men, but could also be a key point in the exploration of the multiverse. With the MCU’s recent focus on the multiverse, as seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Loki series, there’s great interest in how “Marvel” will fit into these complex and expansive narratives.
The interconnectedness of different universes and timelines provides a unique opportunity to introduce the X-Men into the MCU, perhaps through alternate realities or events that change the fabric of the known universe. This connection to the Multiverse not only enriches the “Marvels” plot, but also sets an exciting foundation for future stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Looking for clues to the X-Men in the MCU
MCU fans have been looking for every clue as to when the X-Men will enter the cinematic universe. At the end of the recently released teaser of “The Incredibles,” the legend “To come next” flashed on the screen, while the letter X lingered for a few seconds, further fueling the speculation.
Livanos and Karpman gave little feedback on this track to the film or the soundtrack, but did not deny the connection. Well, what do you think of the idea of anything? “They enjoy it.”
With other recent MCU efforts like “Deadpool 3,” featuring popular X-Men characters and allies, including cameos from Halle Berry’s Storm and Taylor Swift’s Dazzler, it seems like only a matter of time before the mutant super team debuts. An X-Men reboot movie is expected at some point, though there’s no word yet on when such a movie will be made. The most recent X-Men movie was 2019’s “Dark Phoenix,” the franchise’s latest effort distributed by 20th Century Fox.
Closing out the list of MCU films is “The Marvels”, the film’s shortest saga at 1 hour and 45 minutes. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel focusing on the three mutant powers as they investigate a wormhole connected to Kree villains. Park Seo-joon (Prince Yan) and Zawe Ashton (Dar-ben) are also cast.
