Emilia Clarke has left Dragons and Space to join the adaptation of Ed Brubaker’s acclaimed comic, Criminal, for Prime Video.
With an aura of mystery and daring, Prime Video surprises us again, this time including Emilia Clarke, the unforgettable Daenerys from Throne of Thrones, in the new crime series. Adapted from Ed Brubaker’s comic series, Clarke immerses herself in the role of Mallory, a quick-trigger armed thief with a knack for witchcraft.
Emilia Clarke: From Dragons to Crime
Crime Conspiracy promises to grab the attention of fans from the very first episode. With Malorin as part of a Bonnie and Clyde-style duo with Ricky Lawless (played by Gus Halper), this series not only delves into crime, but also reveals emotional complexities and dangerous passions. Mallory’s life on the edge of the law is a web of secrets that could plunge her entire team into danger.
The cast of the series is also amazing. Along with Clarke and Halper, we find figures such as Charlie Hunnam, Richard Jenkins and Adria Arjona, all under a “universe of connected crime stories” that promises to enrich our concept of intertwined narratives. The inclusion of actors such as John Hawkes, Michael Mando and Dominic Burgess, among others, adds to the rich texture of this sprawling universe.
All-star creative team
Behind the cameras, the talent is equal. Ed Brubaker not only owns the story, but also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Jordan Harper. Captain Marvel directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are helming the first four episodes, setting the tone for a series that is expected to be not only entertaining but also visually appealing.
Amazon’s support for this project is palpable. Nick Pepper of Amazon MGM Studios expressed his infectious enthusiasm for the adaptation, assuring that Prime Video’s global customers will “immediately embrace this story.” Amazon’s commitment to Brubaker and Harper’s vision not only honors the original comic content, but also provides insight that expands its reach.
What does this mean for Emilia Clarke and the comic universe?
This new role for Emilia Clarke represents a bold departure from her previous roles. Although we’ve seen her in the Star Wars universe as Qi’ra and as Skrull warrior Jiah in Secret Invasion, her role as Mallory may be her most complex work to date. Clarke is tasked with not only bringing the beloved comic book character to life, but directing an all-star cast in a story that is as much about crime as it is about humanity in the shadows.
The announcement of this shoot has been eagerly awaited by comedy fans and beyond. Can Clark team up with the team behind Criminal to deliver a sequel that will further expand Brubaker’s legacy? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: Emilia Clarke’s journey from the world of fantasy to the dangerous streets of crime promises to be one hell of a treat.
This is an exciting time for Emilia Clarke fans and Ed Brubaker fans. Criminal is shaping up to be the next big series on Prime Video, combining talent in front of and behind the camera to tell a story as timeless as it is: the conflict between good and evil, love and loss between loyalty and betrayal. In crime, every character brings a story with them, and every story is a world waiting to be explored.
