Elrond prevented the communion from making a huge mistake in the Lord of the Rings (and only fans of books know it)

Elrond was not present for most The Lord of the Rings“Events, but he was one of the most important characters in history. He organized the Stock Exchange in Rivendell and offered some key tips. In the new version of The Lord of the RingsJust before the heroes leave Rivendell, Elrond clarifies the nature of the union of communion, explaining that they were not liable to any oath:

You can trap, or come back, or divert yourself to other paths, as allows. The more you go, the less easy it will be to withdraw; However, no oath or link is imposed on you to go further than you. Because you do not yet know the strength of your hearts, and you cannot predict what everyone can meet on the road.

Gimli challenged Elrond’s farewell words. He thought that whoever abandoned the quest once he started was a coward, and he thought that taking an oath to stay next to Frodon would strengthen the determination of communion. Elrond responded in the poetic way so common for the elves: “that he does not consider walking in the dark, which has not seen the nightfall.” Gimli did not assert further, so the scholarship continued, linked only by friendship and a common objective. At the beginning, the exchange of Elrond and Gimli did not seem particularly significant, but the other writings of Jrr Tolkien added more depth to this scene. As revealed in Silmarillion,, Elrond had good reasons to prevent the communion from taking oathBecause he knew that such a thing could end with a disaster.

There is a secret detail in the films of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit connecting 2 of the most important characters (and you have probably missed it)

Arwen’s elacal sword, Hadhafang, had a long story before the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by Peter Jackson.

Some of the most important characters in Silmarillion were the seven sons of Fëanor. Their father created magic jewels known as Silmarils which contained a holy light of the two trees of Valior. After the Dark Lord, Morgoth stole the Silmarils, Fëanor and his children swore on their lives that nothing would prevent them from recovering what was rightly theirs. Fëanor’s oath led them to commit atrocities such as Three Kinslayings, in which they have massacred other elves. The continuation of this oath also ruined the sons of Fëanor. Three perished during the second range of Kins, and two others perished during the third kinslaying. Only two sons of Fëanor – namely the elders, the Maedhros and Maglor – managed to obtain silmarils, and when they did it, they had become so nasty that the Holy Light burned them.

Maglor had planned to abandon his quest to recover the Silmarils, but because of the oath he and his brothers had sworn, he could not do it. Elrond’s knowledge of the Fëanor’s oath did not only come from its familiarity with the ancient tradition; He and his family had suffered personally because of the sons of Fëanor. Elrond’s grandparents and maternal uncles were killed during the second range of Kins, and his parents left Middle-earth forever following the third kinslaying. Elrond and his twin brother, Elros, were even kidnapped by Fëanor’s sons when they were children. Elrond did not want the communion to meet the same fate as the sons of Fëanor, and he did not want them to be ravaged, so he told them not to swear an oath.

The rupture of the scholarship saved the land from the middle

Fans of the Lord of the Rings who jumped the books missed the biggest arc of history of Boromir (and it is necessary to read for fans of the Middle -earth)

Before the Council of Elrond of the Lord of the Rings, Boromir had to travel more than a thousand kilometers from his homeland from Gondor to Rivendell.

It is for the best that the members of the scholarship did not swear on an oath to stay together, because most of them have not finished the trip. After Boromir succumbed to the temptation of the ring and tried to take it from Frodon, the communion broke out. Frodon and Sam left the others for fear that they are trying to take a ring like Boromir. Shortly after, the Uruk-Hai attacked, which led to the death of Boromir and the capture of Merry and Pippin. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli stayed together, but they chose not to follow Frodon, continuing rather Uruk-Ha to save Merry and Pippin.

The incapacity of the scholarship to finish the trip was in fact beneficial, because the large group would have hampered Frodon’s furtive approach to Mordor. The dissolution of the scholarship also allowed the characters to pursue other important objectives. For example, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the resurrected Gandalf provided aid to the Rohirrim, which has become hinged allies in the Ring War. If they had stayed alongside Frodo, Saruman would probably have conquered Rohan. Elrond’s insistence on the fact that communion does not swear an oath was a subtle way of which he shaped history. He made sure that history was not repeated.
