Akira Toriyama Dragon Ball is an evergreen anime classic that celebrates the heroic adventures of Goku as he saves the Earth – and sometimes the entire universe – from malevolent forces. Dragon Ball succeeds when it comes to suspenseful action sequences, intimidating transformations, and powerful energy attacks powerful enough to destroy entire planets. Part of the joy of Dragon Ball is that it does not exist in a vacuum and that the entire franchise spans several decades. Goku begins Dragon Ball at the age of 12, but he becomes a mature adult who now has an extended family of courageous heroes at his side.
It’s extremely rewarding to see Goku become a loving parent and share his martial arts knowledge with those around him. Some members of Goku’s family, like Gohan and Goten, apparently have the potential to surpass his incredible strength and reach even greater heights. That being said, there are other family members who are happy with their base strength and are not interested in constant combat. Goku has established an interesting family tree throughout Dragon Ball and each member of his lineage experienced contrasting transformations.

Strongest form: Perfected Ultra Instinct
Goku, like Dragon BallThe main character of , has been particularly lucky when it comes to new forms and transformations. The original Dragon Ball presents Goku’s Great Ape form as a powerful, yet reckless, asset. In Dragon Ball Z, GTAnd GreatGoku is often the favorite when it comes to discovering new Super Saiyan transformations, whether it be the original Super Saiyan form, Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan 4, Super Saiyan God, and Super Saiyan Blue. Super Saiyan Blue is no laughing matter, but Goku has recently taken a unique path that puts him in sync with angels and other divine beings.
Some consider Ultra Instinct a technique rather than a transformation, but it becomes Goku’s primary combat tool after the Tournament of Power. Goku’s True Ultra Instinct form allows him to access the Ultra Instinct force, while retaining his personality and combat-focused mindset. However, it is Perfected Ultra Instinct, which comes with a monumental energy avatar for combat, that is currently Goku’s most powerful form and his best tool in battle.
9 Bardock, Goku’s biological father, was dismissed as a lower-class Saiyan warrior
Strongest form: Great ape; Most powerful non-canon form: Super Saiyan 4
Bardock, Goku’s father, is a lower class Saiyan warrior, although he has enough power and respect to be able to lead his own Saiyan team, Team Bardock. Bardock’s trajectory is fairly typical of the standard Saiyan, and like many others, he meets his end when Frieza destroys Planet Vegeta. Bardock’s strongest canonical transformation is his Great Ape form, which his entire team uses to facilitate the destruction and conquest of other planets. Dragon Ball SuperThe manga expands on Bardock’s story and reveals that he actually fought against Gas in his Inner Nature Unleashed state many years ago. Bardock exhibits an increased aura and advanced powers during his fight against Gas which some have mistaken for a rudimentary version of Ultra Instinct, although this is never confirmed.

Throughout the history of Dragon Ball, Goku has had many forms. But which one is stronger?
Oddly enough, Bardock has exploited many stronger forms in the non-canon realm. Dragon Ball adventures. In the OVA, Dragon Ball: Bardock Episodehe travels back in time and confronts Chilled, Frieza’s ancestor. Bardock transforms into a Super Saiyan during this battle, which is supposed to be what Frieza’s ancestors were worried about Super Saiyans in the first place, although the story is not canon. In addition, Dragon Ball Heroes and several others Dragon Ball video games, such as Battle of the docks And Extreme Butodenpush Bardock’s power even further to Super Saiyan 2 status. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 goes even further by presenting Super Saiyan 3 Bardock, after his Time Rift fight against Mira, while Dragon Ball Heroes brings him to Super Saiyan 4 power. It is worth pointing out that on Earth, Grandpa Gohan is Goku’s adoptive guardian and the closest thing to a father during his youth. Grandpa Gohan’s influence on Goku is significant, but as a human he does not know any forms beyond his standard state.
8 Gine is Goku’s mother and Bardock’s devoted wife
Strongest form: Great ape
Dragon Ball Super: Broly features an extended flashback prologue set on Planet Vegeta that provides illuminating details about not only Goku’s father, Bardock, but also his mother, Gine. Gine and Bardock have a romantic relationship and there is such respect between these two Saiyans that Bardock actually insists that Gine leave Team Bardock in order to protect her from perpetual war. Gine’s contributions on the battlefield are not examined in Dragon Ball and he’s a character that hasn’t received a lot of love in video games.
Gine is only seen in her base Saiyan form. However, it stands to reason that she is familiar with the transformation of her people’s great apes. Gine has a tail, and her history on Team Bardock means she likely took on this form during her group’s many missions of conquest. Gine is important in the sense that she is Goku’s mother and she is willing to make the difficult decision that will spare his life and ensure him a future on Earth. Dragon Ball has been quite selective when it comes to its female Super Saiyans and Gine has yet to make the cut, even in non-canon stories, so far.
7 Chi-Chi is Goku’s wife and the proud parent of their children
Most Powerful Form: Black Water Mist Demon
Chi-Chi is introduced from the beginning Dragon BallEmperor Pilaf’s introductory saga, but Goku does not properly view her as a worthy and equal martial artist until they face off in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Chi-Chi has true talent as a martial artist, although her human status holds her back from much of the greatness experienced by Goku. Chi-Chi marries Goku and her domestic life as a wife and mother becomes her main interest in life and she puts her fighting skills on the back burner. Chi-Chi may have a fiery temper, but she doesn’t experience any totemic transformations as the franchise continues.
This may be an anime-exclusive filler arc, but the Garlic Jr. Saga involves the titular villain unleashing Black Water Mist from Kami’s Lookout. Chi-Chi becomes infected with this toxic element and it causes what could be considered a transformation of sorts. The Black Water Mist Demon Chi-Chi has wicked pink eyes and fang-like teeth. She may not be actively stronger in this state, but she is more aggressive and prone to chaotic combat. This is a rare opportunity in Dragon Ball Z where she actually fights. Chi-Chi’s status as Goku’s wife also means that her father-in-law is the powerful Ox King. Ox-King is huge and often looks more like a monster than a man, but he is still just a human who has no additional forms at his disposal.
6 Gohan is truly his father’s son and has achieved unprecedented power
Strongest form: Gohan Beast
Dragon Ball Z introduces Goku’s son Gohan, and just as quickly, it teases his incredible potential and that he is destined to surpass Goku’s strength. Gohan exploits this potential by achieving Super Saiyan status at age 9, only to become the first Super Saiyan 2 shortly after. Oddly enough, Gohan’s Saiyan skills and training decrease slightly during Dragon Ball Z‘s Buu Saga until Old Kai unleashed his full potential and pushed him to the Ultimate Gohan state. Dragon Ball Super It’s a difficult time to be a Gohan fan and his strength is largely declining.

The joke that Goku is a bad father or abandons his family is popular with Dragon Ball fans, but how true is this belief to reality?
Fortunately, Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes gives Gohan the showcase and awakening he deserves, in which he ascends to the status of Gohan Beast. Gohan’s beast mode is said to be the evolution of his ultimate form and a transformation unique to him, rather than an offshoot of Saiyans or divine beings. Gohan Beast is still a fairly recent development and it will be interesting to see how Dragon Ball SuperThe next manga saga explores this phenomenal form.
5 Raditz is Goku’s evil brother and one of the first victims of Dragon Ball Z
Strongest form: Great ape; Most powerful non-canon form: Super Saiyan 3
Raditz is Dragon Ball ZThe first villain of and the franchise’s introduction to Saiyan warriors. Raditz drops this bombshell on Goku and forces his brother’s hand when it comes to fighting. Raditz, as one of Dragon Ball ZThe first victims of , are removed from the picture long before Super Saiyans are on anyone’s radar. This means that Raditz’s low-class Saiyan base form represents the extent of his power in Dragon Ball Z. However, Raditz still has his tail, meaning he likely experienced the Great Ape Transformation at some point in his life, even though it is not present in the anime.
Miscellaneous non-canon Dragon Ball video games, such as Budokai Tenkaichi 2 And Battle of the docksmake Great Ape Raditz a reality. With curiosity, Super Dragon Ball Heroes also experiences Super Saiyan 3’s strength during the Super Space-Time tournament when he faces Turles. Super Dragon Ball Heroes doesn’t depict Raditz with Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan 2 power and the decision to elevate him to Super Saiyan 3 status seems more like a joke about his long hair which is already the standard Super Saiyan 3 length.
4 Goten is Goku’s second child and a natural Saiyan savant
Strongest form: Super Saiyan
Dragon Ball Z features big changes when it moves forward seven years to mark the time between Cell Saga and Buu Saga. Gohan is now a teenager, but Dragon Ball Z features Goku’s second child, Goten, who was obviously conceived at some point before the Cell Games and before Goku’s death. Goten becomes the youngest Super Saiyan in the franchise and he casually reaches this milestone at just seven years old, breaking Gohan’s record by two years.
Goten, on his own, never surpasses the inaugural Super Saiyan transformation. However, it is worth pointing out that his Super Saiyan power combined with that of Trunks in their merged form, Gotenks, receives a major upgrade. Gotenks is the only other character, besides Goku, who canonically becomes a Super Saiyan 3 fighter. Goten gets a taste of Super Saiyan 3 strength as Gotenks, even though he never reached the heights of the Super Saiyan 3. Super Saiyan 2.
3 Videl enters Goku’s family when she begins a relationship with Gohan
Strongest form: Possessed Tuffle parasite
Dragon Ball ZBuu Saga’s explores Gohan’s teenage years and gives him a chance as the anime’s main character. Gohan moonlights as the streetwise superhero the Great Saiyaman, but he also falls in love with Videl. Videl is the daughter of Hercule Satan, which means she has been exposed to martial arts her entire life. Videl is strong for a human, but she lacks ki abilities beyond what Gohan teaches her, such as flight. Videl enters Goku’s family when she becomes Gohan’s partner. She experiences a trajectory that is no different from that of Chi-Chi in the sense that her martial arts skills take second place to raising a child and ensuring a stable family life, which is certainly also Gohan’s trajectory. for most of his life. Tuffle Parasite Possessed Videl appears to be slightly stronger than normal and she loses her empathy, which is evident when she ruthlessly fights her daughter, Pan. Additionally, Videl participates in Goku’s Super Saiyan God Ritual, as she is pregnant with a child who is a ¼ Saiyan. The peak of this transformation depicts Videl with Super Saiyan-like blonde hair. This is the only time she experiences such a form, but it could be argued that she is very briefly a Super Saiyan.
Strongest form: basic level
Pan is Goku’s granddaughter and is strangely polarizing. Dragon Ball character. Pan is one of Dragon Ball GT‘s most important characters, despite how she is often cast in the role of a damsel in distress. Pan is just a child Dragon Ball GTbut she helps Goku in battle against powerful enemies like Lord Luud, Baby Vegeta and most of the Shadow Dragons. Pan is definitely strong enough and under enough stress to become a Super Saiyan. However, there was yet to be a female Super Saiyan during this time period. Dragon Ball GTand Toei didn’t know how to describe such a thing.
Dragon Ball Super has since dabbled in this field with Kale and Caulifla of Universe 6, making a transformation into a Super Saiyan inevitable for GreatThe three-year-old version of Pan. This version of Pan is off to an incredible start, thanks to his training under Piccolo, and GreatWe hope the manga follows on this front. As it stands, Pan has never transformed and remains at her base level, even in non-canon stories.
1 Goku Jr. is Goku’s distant descendant and the Saiyan hero of the future
Strongest form: Super Saiyan
Dragon Ball GTdespite its polarizing reception within the fandom, is widely considered one of the best endings for any anime in the franchise. Dragon Ball GTThe final episode includes a touching epilogue that moves the clock forward a century and depicts a triumphant clash at the 64th World Tournament. A match between Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. takes place, in which these two future Saiyans transform into Super Saiyans. Goku Jr. is Pan’s great-great-grandson, making him Goku’s great-great-great-great-grandson and only 1/64 Saiyan. There is only a fraction of Saiyan blood in Goku Jr., but he is still capable of becoming a Super Saiyan, even if he does not fully understand the meaning of this powerful form. Goku Jr.’s appearance hints at an optimistic future for Earth and that there will always be heroes – and members of Goku’s family – who will be there to fight evil.
Dragon Ball GTthe TV special, Dragon Ball GT: A Hero’s Legacysheds a little more light on Goku Jr. and creates some satisfying parallels as to how similar his life is to Goku’s childhood. Dragon Ball Heroes also features Beat, an Earthling who uses the Dragon Ball Heroes machine to transform into a pure Saiyan. Beat is designed to be a generic Saiyan Hero avatar, but Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission actually reveals that Beat is a distant descendant of Goku. Beat may not be canon, but he is capable of experiencing virtually all of Goku’s possible transformations, whether it be Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue , Super Saiyan 4 and even Ultra Instinct.
