Dragon Ball: Does Gohan Beast have God Ki?

The world of Dragon Ball is huge. Over the course of its long and storied history, the franchise has introduced a gigantic cast of characters, told hundreds of stories, and changed genres often. Because of this, the series has left viewers with many unanswered questions, many of which are the subject of great debate within the fan community. A good example of this is Gohan’s Beast form, as although it was well received upon its debut, fans still frequently debate the exact nature of the form, particularly whether it has access to God Ki.

Ki (sometimes localized as Chi) is a constant presence in the world of Dragon Ball, being first mentioned by Master Roshi in the 14th chapter of the manga, “Kame Kame Kame Kame Kame Chameleon” and the 8th episode of the anime “The Kamehameha Wave”. In the Dragon Ball world, Ki is a form of energy that every living being possesses, regardless of its origin or power level. By training, people can increase their Ki production and learn to channel and manipulate it within their body, allowing them to increase their strength and accomplish many other fantastic feats. High-level users can even draw Ki from their body and use it as a weapon, with the Kamehameha Wave being the most famous example of this phenomenon.

What is the story of God Ki in Dragon Ball?

God Ki has been mentioned a lot in Dragon Ball, but his mechanics are still a bit mysterious

Unlike ordinary Ki, God Ki is a unique form of Ki that only high-ranking gods and deities generate.. Although God Ki was first mentioned in the Majin Buu Saga, he was not fully described or brought to light until Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, and it became a central plot point during Dragon Ball Super. God Ki is more powerful than regular Ki, meaning that (in theory) someone with God Ki can easily defeat someone with regular Ki.

The other main characteristic of God Ki is that only people with God Ki can sense it. This means that a regular fighter or someone relying on a scout would only realize the immense strength of the person they were fighting when it was too late. However, this rule has varied slightly over the years, with several mortals, including Frieza, making statements suggesting that they can sense God Ki or the pressure and atmospheric changes caused by it. This ability to “sense” God Ki, however, could be due to characters having already encountered him elsewhere in the series, or having a more tertiary proximity to him in their lives. In Frieza’s example, he was well aware of Beerus’ existence, while most of the Z-Fighters hadn’t really heard of him. That being said, this possibility of understanding through exposure has yet to be clarified or explored further.

Fortunately, God Ki is not entirely limited to those of divine birth, as mortals can acquire God Ki in several ways. One solution is to use special rituals, such as the Super Saiyan God ritual that Goku, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Vegeta, and Videl use to transform Goku into his Super Saiyan God form in both cases. Dragon Ball Super And Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. The other usual way for a mortal to acquire God Ki is to be trained by a god or angel, although this requires the mortal to find a god willing to accept them as a student, which is much easier to do. say what to do.

It should be noted that non-canons Dragon Ball spin-offs have suggested that certain beings can gain God Ki by learning specific form transformations. However, the Demon God forms from Super Dragon Ball Heroes and the Broly God form featured in the Universal Studios pop-up attraction Dragon Ball Z: The Real 4-D at Super Tenkaichi Budokai are the only examples in existence, and none have fully confirmed that the user had full access to God Ki. The Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue transformations are two forms confirmed to have God Ki in the source material, but it is possible that others will follow suit.

Does Gohan Beast have God Ki?

The manga suggests that Gohan doesn’t have the power of the gods, but it requires reading between the lines

Gohan’s Beast form debuted in theDragon Ball Super: Super Heroes movie. Gohan achieves this transformation after witnessing Piccolo’s death at the hands of Cell Max. Alas, due to this form being triggered at the end of the film’s final battle, viewers don’t see her in action for long. Fortunately, the form is given more time to shine in the manga, as it features an epilogue that continues the saga after the film ends.

In the Dragon Ball Super In the 101st chapter of the manga, “Carmine and Soldier 15”, Carmine goes to Gohan’s house and starts shooting him. Hearing this, Gohan transforms into a beast, assuming that Carmine has returned to kidnap Pan again. After detecting Gohan’s Ki, Goku leaves Beerus’ planet and finds Gohan on Earth. After a brief meeting, Goku tells Gohan that he wants to see how powerful this new form is. But, realizing that they can’t fight outside of Gohan’s home, Goku takes Gohan, Trunks, and Goten to Beerus’ planet. Once on the planet, everyone engages in a series of fights that take up the next few chapters, leading to an epic showdown between Goku and Gohan, giving Gohan a chance to show off his new form and making it easier to judge the true extent of his power.

The work of Akira Toriyama, 20, resurfaces

Dragon Ball revealed an illustration by Akira Toriyama Gotenks from two decades ago.

The biggest clue that Gohan Beast has God Ki is the form’s immense strength. After Gohan transformed into a Beast in Superhero, he begins to completely dominate Cell Max, a fighter who had faced several powerful warriors without breaking a sweat just minutes before. During the manga’s training sessions,Gohan Beast stands up to Ultra Instinct Goku for a short while. When Goku finally turns the tables, Vegeta notes that he only did so because of his immense combat experience. Additionally, shortly after, Gohan breaks Goku’s Ultra Instinct and lands a blow on him, a stunning feat in itself.

This power increase led many fans to claim that Gohan Beast had God Ki. It’s easy to see why, especially when comparing the immense power boost Goku got after the Super Saiyan God ritual (which allowed him to briefly challenge Beerus) and the boost Gohan got upon entering form beast, the one that allowed him to eliminate Cell Max and later, he resists Goku’s most powerful forms.

His immense power is further proven by the fact that, while watching the fight between Broly and Gohan, Whis asks Beerus if Gohan is “perhaps a suitable candidate for the next God of Destruction?” Beerus immediately dismisses this, but he does so by noting that “destruction is not in the cards for someone who is this blunt”, implying that Gohan’s personality is the roadblock, not his level of power, further suggesting that this new form gave Gohan access to God Ki.

However, despite this, the manga chapters feature several lines of dialogue that strongly imply that Gohan Beast does not have God Ki. When Goku and Vegeta first detect Gohan’s Ki, they are both surprised by its power. But when Vegeta asks if Goku felt it, Goku responds:

“Yeah, we know that Chi!”

Later, when Goku and Gohan begin their fight, Gohan transforms into beast form, causing Goku to exclaim:

“Look at this terrible Chi storm!”

If this new form had allowed Gohan to harness God Ki, then it’s likely that Goku or Vegeta (assuming they could detect God Ki in their base forms) would comment on it specifically. Doubly so because it means Gohan developed God Ki without undergoing Goku’s ritual or Vegeta’s intense training with Whis and Beerus.

10 Most Annoying Dragon Ball Super Characters, Ranked

Dragon Ball Super helped expand the shonen franchise in a major way, but not all of its characters are particularly pleasant to be around.

This is further proven by a conversation Beerus and Whis had later. When Beerus asks, “Is Goku’s son in Super Saiyan form,” Whis responds by saying, “No, not quite,” before coldly continuing:

“It’s not a divine technique either. I would say it’s a singular talent, unique to him.”

At this point, Beerus and Whis are absent from the group, meaning they don’t need to lie about the situation. So if Gohan Beast had God Ki, they would probably either mention it or be much more amazed by what they see, as it would be a rare example of a mortal achieving God Ki without the input of a god.

From what has been shown so far, it seems it is likely that Gohan Beast does not have God Ki. If the form had access to it, it’s fair to assume that Beerus or Whis would have mentioned it when they watched the practice match, simply due to its rarity. Additionally, it would be a strange writing decision to give a main character access to a massive new power, which has been built up over several films and manga arcs, and not declare it directly to the audience.

Additionally, giving Gohan Beast God Ki would go against the story Toriyama has been telling for years. Toriyama always had Gohan follow a distinct path, very different from the one Goku and the other Z-Fighters follow. Giving Gohan a highlight film, only for his special bonus to be something Goku and Vegeta acquired a long time ago, would go against that tradition, meaning it’s unlikely Gohan Beast will have God Ki.
