Disney+ celebrates 90 years of Donald Duck with new classics and new animation.
On with Disney+. These are accompanied by a new animated short called “DIY Duck” produced by award-winning Dorothy McKim and produced by the traditional animation team at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
A legendary debut
Created by Dick Lundy and Walt Disney himself, Donald Duck first appeared in 1934 in the animated short “The Wise Little Chicken”. Although it premiered on May 3 at the Cartier Circle Theatre, it did not reach general release until June 9. In this short, Clarence Nash provided the voices of Donald and Peter Pig, Florence Gill played Wise Hen, and Pinto Colvig provided additional voices and sound effects. This short not only introduced the world to Donald Duck, but also marked Nash’s first appearance in a Disney production.
Although Donald was introduced as an independent character, he emerged as the inspiration for Disney’s eventual logo, Mickey Mouse. This dynamic Donald was strengthened in 1934 “Orphan’s Benefit”, later, Donald became the center of his own animated universe, “Donald Duck Universe” creation mostly by legendary artist.
The “Donald Duck Universe” has created a wide range of multimedia features. The most famous of them is Scrooge McDuck, the central character in the “Ducktales” series. However, it inspired more creative works such as “Dark Duck” and “Quack Pack”.
