Dog Man is heading to the big screen in early 2025, with the popular children’s book character getting his own feature film. A few months before the film hits the big screen, New trailer shared by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation reveals a first glimpse.
The film is the latest project from DreamWorks, the animation studio behind beloved franchises like Kung Fu Panda And How to train your dragon. With Dog Man is the first feature film directly based on Dev Pilkey’s bestselling book series of the same name. The film’s animation captures the look of the books’ art style, but with a bit of enhancement to give the characters a more 3D appearance. The trailer can be seen below.
Pierre Hastings (The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) directed Dog Man. The voice cast includes Lil Rel Howery (free man, To go out) as leader and Pete Davidson (Saturday night live, The Suicide Squad) as the villain, Petey the Cat. They are joined by Isla Fisher (The Wedding Breakers, Range) like Sarah Hatoff, Poppy Liu (Tips) like Butler, Stephen Root (King of the hill) like grandfather, Billy Boyd (The Seed of Chucky) like Seamus and Ricky Gervais (The Office) like Flippy the fish.
Dog Man synopsis revealed
The official synopsis of Dog Man English: says: “When a loyal police dog and his human cop owner are injured together on the job, a crazy but life-saving surgery fuses them together and Dog Man is born. Dog Man is sworn to protect and serve, and to fetch, sit and roll around. As Dog Man comes to terms with his new identity and struggles to impress his boss (Lil Rel Howery), he must stop the rather diabolical plots of feline supervillain Petey the Cat (Pete Davidson). Petey’s latest plan is to clone himself, creating the kitten Lil Petey, to double his crime-committing ability. Things get complicated, however, when Lil Petey forges an unexpected bond with Dog Man. When Lil Petey falls into the clutches of a mutual enemy, Dog Man and Petey reluctantly join forces in an action-packed race against time to save the young kitten. In doing so, they discover the power of family (and kittens!) to bring together even the most hostile enemies.”
THE Dog Man The book series was launched in 2016. In total, over 60 million copies have been sold in the years since, with the series now running to 12 installments. The next installment in the book series, titled Dog Man: The Beginning of Big Jimwill be released on December 3. This follows the 2023 release of the most recent book, The Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea.
Dog Man will be released in theaters on January 31, 2025.
