Bob Iger talks about the current state of superhero movies

Disney CEO Bob Iger doesn’t think there’s fatigue with superhero movies, and believes what’s happening is more of a production quality problem.

Audiences want the best movies

Bob Iger addressed the state of the superhero genre at a Morgan Stanley conference, commenting that the problem these days is “not audience fatigue,” and it’s no coincidence that the first 33 movies of The Movie were. The Marvel Cinematic Universe grosses nearly $30 billion at the box office.

“A lot of people think it’s viewer fatigue, not viewer fatigue. They want the best movies. And if you build it well, they will come and the examples of that are countless. Some are ours and others are. Oppenheimer is a perfect example of this. “Just an amazing movie.”

“Focus is really important. We’ve reduced Marvel’s output, the number of movies they’re making and the number of TV shows, and that’s going to be really critical, but I feel good about the team. I feel good about intellectual property. We are doing it. I talked about many projects. We really look forward to the future. And it’s repetitive.”

On the other hand, Bob Iger took the opportunity to express his faith in Deadpool and Wolverine: “It’s going to be one of the most successful Marvel movies we’ve had in a long time.”
