James Gunn talks about Shazam 2’s confusing post-credits scene
James Gunn finally spoke the post-credits scene of Shazam! Wrath of the Gods.
James Gunn didn’t understand either.
In the post-credits, Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee) are seen trying to convince Billy Batson (Zachary Levy) to become part of the Justice Society, all at the behest of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Emilia and John are the most important characters in the peaceful series, so many fans have suggested that Gunnin is responsible for this decision. However, it doesn’t seem that way.
In Threads, a fan asked the filmmaker if that scene suggested The Rock could return to the new DC Universe as Black Adam. Gunn doesn’t answer the question, but says he doesn’t understand why Emilia and Jon are being recruited by the Justice Society. Below, we share their words.
“It wasn’t my calling and I didn’t write it; even though it came out when I first started at DC, it was long before I was included (as the director of Harcourt’s underwater prison!) and I thought it was interesting, but I don’t know why those characters are being recruited into the Justice Society.”
The DCU will officially begin in 2024 with the animated series Creation Commando, and the first film in this universe will be Superman: Legacy, which will hit theaters in summer 2025.
