Deadpool and Wolverine’s epic battle with Like a Prayer could have had a much more tragic ending than what we see in the film
In one of the most commented sequences of Deadpool and Wolverine, Logan and the Merc with the Mouth They take on the Deadpool Corps to the tune of Madonna’s classic, “Like a Prayer”. This scene, full of action and humor, took a much darker turn, as revealed by Ryan Reynolds.
Speaking to Collider, Reynolds explained that his original idea for this moment and the song that accompanied it was to kill Colossusthe metallic hero with whom Wade Wilson had struck up a friendship in the previous two films. The X-Manknown for trying to convince Wilson to be more heroic and control his speech, he would eventually achieve his goal, but at a high cost.
Reynolds describes in detail how Deadpool wouldn’t have sworn in this version of the story. Shortly before he died, Colossus reportedly asked Wade to swear for himremembering a similar scene in Personages. Wade, excited, would have tried to fulfill her wish, but Colossus would have died before he could do so. “And then you see Wade walk out of frame,” Reynolds continues, “and you’re left with a blank shot for about two minutes of Colossus’ body, which is just infuriating.”
An almost perfect sequence
Reynolds goes on to describe how the camera would remain on the empty scene until the moment Wade returned, dressed in his full Deadpool costume, ready for battle.. “Like a Prayer” will begin playing as Wade prepares to face a horde of zombies, or whatever the bad guys were in that version.
The addition of Wolverine the cast changed the dynamics of the film, and Colossus ended up having much less screen time. However, the presence of Hugh Jackman probably saved Colossus from a tragic fate.
Despite this scene it was never made just as Reynolds imagined it, Fans are grateful that Piotr Rasputin, aka Colossus, survived to eventually join Deadpool in future adventures.
In addition to the confirmed characters, the film could have included other iconic X-Men characters. Gambitthe charismatic mutant with the ability to charge objects with kinetic energy, would have added a touch of style and humor to the film. There were also rumors of the appearance of Cablealready appeared in Personagescontributing with his peculiar relationship with Wade. These characters would have further enriched the Deadpool universe..
