Matt Murdock is reborn, and now he’s a completely different Daredevil.
Marvel Comics gives Daredevil a new outfit as he takes on his new role as a Catholic priest.
Matt Murdock’s new mission
Matt Murdock is born a Catholic priest after sacrificing his own life to save the souls of each of his friends trapped in a hellish cult. Unfortunately, the hero returns to life with few memories of his time as a street urchin.
Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder’s latest Daredevil series features dark entities representing the seven deadly sins of the beloved character from the Marvel Universe. Sloth takes it upon himself to capture Matt’s old love, Elektra; Envy corrupts his friend Ben Urick, and his friend She-Hulk is devoured by gluttony. Matt has managed to drive them away from the people he loves, but now he must help Doctor Strange overcome his own demons.
In Daredevil #6, Stephen Strange tells Matt that his goal is to make him remember his past life as Daredevil. “You know exactly the path these entities took to get to Hell’s Kitchen,” Strange said as he used his magic to teach Matt that the demons had followed him after he was brought back to life. The sorcerer warns that these creatures are here to drag him to the world of the dead.
Matt asks the Sorcerer Supreme why he can’t banish these entities with magic, to which Strange replies that they come from himself. In other words, Matt has the key, so the wizard can only show him the door.
The Stranger shows the hero the door, though it only opens when Matt names the man who caused his misery. So Daredevil has no choice but to say that he is to blame for his mishap. In this way, Matt unlocks his memories as a street vigilante.
However, everything is not so simple, because Matt has entered the territory that looks like some kind of fantasy, vision or pocket scale. The hero then falls into the abyss to face the worst version of himself. This darkness drags Daredevil Matt into the depths of his soul, saying that God has banished him to the darkness. Matt does not give up and remembers that mercy is far greater than judgment, and at the end he calls out to the body with the following words: “God is light!”
After all of that, Matt was born dressed in all white as a pure Daredevil.
This new version of Daredevil promises to protect the city from people who use their powers for evil and dark entities that take people’s bodies for harm. In other words, a new Daredevil was born.
