The lore behind Dragon Ball’s Kais has come a long way since King Kai was first introduced in the Saiyan Saga. Dragon Ball Z Buu Saga introduced many new and higher-ranking gods, the most prominent of them in the series being Shin. Shin hasn’t been a major character since the Buu Saga, but that’s about to change with the recent premiere of Dragon Ball DAIMA.
Dragon Ball DAIMA reintroduces Shin, the Supreme Kai, and debuts his demonic brother and sister. While Shin will be one of Goku’s main companions on his adventure in Demon Realm, his newly introduced siblings Degesu and Dr. Arinsu are aligned with the series’ main villain, King Gomah. Just based on what has already been revealed in DAIMA first episode, these new villains change everything fans thought they knew about the Supreme Kai.
Shin was introduced alongside extensive lore during the Buu Saga
The hierarchy of gods in Dragon Ball is complicated
Dragon Ball has always played things fast and loose when it comes to its godlike characters. Before the Buu Saga, King Kai was considered the highest god in this universe but, even before his introduction, Kami was known as the god of Earth. And by the time of the franchise’s resurgence in the 2010s and the introduction of the Gods of Destruction, the hierarchy of gods had already become so complicated that most fans needed a chart to make sense of it.
In the Buu Saga, it is revealed that King Kai is not the highest authority in the universe, as he once claimed, but rather one of the four gods who each oversee a quadrant of the universe. universe, its power extending only over the North. Galaxy. This first addition to the lore isn’t too confusing, but it doesn’t help that even though the existence of the Eastern, Southern, and Western Kais are all canon, they only appeared in non-canon material. Making things even more complicated, Grand Kai, the boss of these Kais who appears in the same non-canon material, is not canon. However, there is one canon character who initially seemed to fill the same role as the Grand Kai: Shin.
Shin is introduced during the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament as Supreme Kai, the god above all other gods.. He is sarcastic, arrogant, and distrustful, but he eventually reveals himself to be an ally of the heroes who only wishes to prevent Babidi from waking Majin Buu. However, neither he nor his assistant, Kibito, are particularly helpful in this task. Despite Shin’s high status, although he is stronger than Piccolo, he is still much weaker than Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta. The more Goku and his friends get to know Shin, the more he also reveals himself to be naive, cowardly, innocent to a fault, and ignorant of the universe he is supposed to rule over. Most damning for Shin, his status as Supreme Kai turns out to have far less significance than he initially claimed.

10 Weakest Dragon Ball Super Characters Who Could Still One Hit DBZ Frieza
Frieza was one of the strongest enemies in Dragon Ball Z, but his power has increased so much since then that many super characters could beat him.
Near the end of the Buu Saga, it is revealed that Shin is only the Eastern Supreme Kai, and he can only be called the Singular Supreme Kai because the Northern, Southern, and Eastern Supreme Kais West were all killed by Buu millions of years before the story began. Furthermore, even they were not the highest order of gods, with Grand Supreme Kai, who was also killed by Buu, having ruled above them. This may seem confusing to fans of Dragon Ball Superwho know that Shin’s life is directly linked to Beerus’ as the two highest powers in Universe 7.
The explanation is that, along with all the other deaths, Shin is effectively an Acting Grand Supreme Kai, even though he does not hold the title. This makes sense in the context of how the gods Dragon Ball function, they are chosen and not born. Any “primary person” is hypothetically eligible to become a god, and Shin inherited his position from the being now known as Old Kai, after serving as his apprentice.
Degesu is Shin’s envious little brother
Degesu acts as King Gomah’s right-hand man in the Demon Realm
Degesu debuts in the first episode of Dragon Ball DAIMA“Conspiracy”, as one of the main villains of the new anime. Degesu is Shin’s younger brother and has several things in common with Universe 7’s Supreme Kai. His appearance, speech, and manner of dressing are all similar to Shin’s, he is easily excitable and, although he also seems naive about certain things, he also thinks more logically than his master, Gomah. Unlike Shin, who is at least noble despite all his faults, Degesu is clearly evil.. He despises humans, despises Shin for caring about them and envies his brother for becoming the Supreme Kai, and he does not hesitate to launch a preemptive strike against Team Dragon.

And after Dragon Ball Super?
After Dragon Ball Super ended, fans of the franchise can only wonder what’s in store for the Super Saiyans.
Degesu is Gomah’s loyal right-hand man. After Dabura’s murder by Majin Buu, Gomah is now the supreme ruler of the Demon Realm. This makes Degesu the second most powerful person, in terms of influence, in the dimension. However, in terms of power level, he might very well be the strongest. ALWAYS takes place right after the Buu Saga, and assuming Degesu has similar strength to Shin, this makes him more powerful than any non-Saiyan Z-Warrior.
And since Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan were transformed into children, and Goten and Trunks into babies, it’s likely that none of them currently have the power to take him on. Degesu’s only redeeming traits so far are that he is completely loyal to Gomah, without a trace of betrayal. He is also incredibly respectful towards his older sister, Dr. Arinsu.
Dr. Arinsu is Shin’s manipulative younger sister
Dr. Arinsu has aligned himself with the Demon Realm
Younger than Shin, but older than Degesu, Dr. Arinsu is the middle child among her siblings. Like Degesu, Dr. Arinsu is a citizen of the Demon Realm and a major villain in Dragon Ball DAIMA. Unlike Degesu, Dr. Arinsu has her own unique aesthetic, a calmer and more calculated personality, and a distance she maintains from Demon Realm politics. Although it is clear that Dr. Arinsu is part of the Demon Realm’s upper class, his interest is not in power, but in science. Before his death, Dabura funded Dr. Arinsu’s research and she now expects King Gomah to do the same.. While ensuring he will capitulate, she shows off her manipulative skills, supported by her charming attitude.
In terms of strength, Dr. Arinsu is likely weaker than her brothers, as she focuses on her studies, but it is just as likely that she is still more powerful than most mortal warriors. She’s clearly not afraid of Gomah or Degesu either. While Dr. Arinsu maintains cordial relations with both of them, she freely leaves and returns to the Demon Realm on her own without informing them, and is even willing to take action against them. His motivations and the subject of his research are currently unknown.

10 major Dragon Ball characters that Goku doesn’t even know exist
Goku has faced some of Dragon Ball’s most powerful warriors, but there are also many characters he has never crossed paths with.
Along with Degesu, Dr. Arinsu’s existence opens up many questions about Shin and the already complicated lore surrounding the Kaio. Namely the fact that Core People can have brothers and sisters in the traditional sense. From what fans know, Core People are born from fruits that grow on the World Tree. However, like most other knowledge fans have about the Core People, this comes from non-canon materials like Dragon Ball Xenoverse And Super Dragon Ball Heroes. That’s not to say that it isn’t still relevant information, as most of the current lore regarding the Demon Realm also comes from the same non-canonical sources. Depending on the influence ALWAYS chooses to draw from these sources, this could indicate that Degesu and Dr. Arinsu were evil core people who were thrown into the Demon Realm for their bad behavior and became Demon Kai as a result, but that still wouldn’t explain not the bond between brothers and sisters. .
There’s still a lot fans don’t know about Shin and his siblings, but their family drama and the history surrounding them will undoubtedly be major driving forces in Dragon Ball DAIMA. Gods in Dragon Ball have always been far from perfect, and it wouldn’t be a shock to learn that Shin did more to earn his brother and sister’s wrath than simply becoming Supreme Kai. And with Degesu and Dr. Arinsu taking up residence in the Demon Realm, there’s no guarantee that there won’t be other evil members of their species waiting to appear.
