Creature Commandos Secretly Repeats the Arrowverse’s Biggest Mistake (But in Reverse)
For years, DC fans have lamented filler episodes in the Arrowverse TV shows on The CW, but Creature Commandos may not tell a complete enough story.
Episode 5’s flashback picks up with the Bride of Frankenstein burning Eric for killing her creator. Frankenstein was jealous that the bride loved the doctor, so he ended the man’s life, only to be beaten and cremated. Frankenstein washes downstream in a river where an old blind woman named Bogdana takes care of him.
With her dog, she represents the family that Eric never had. She cooks, cleans and listens to him. She hopes to help him regain his humanity, and he does so for a while. He chases her away and considers her a mother. But he can’t get over the bride, even after Bogdana declares that his makeshift wife doesn’t love him. She wants him to continue his life.
Unfortunately, after a few months of serenity, Eric murders his guardian and leaves.. In his twisted mind, Eric sees this as a mercy killing rather than a cruel act. All that matters is his “flirty” and “shy” romance. He doesn’t care at all that he left his dog, Ivan, without an owner, which further highlights the cruel nature of the murder.

The DCU’s first animated series reunites two of the MCU’s brutal killers with a romantic twist
Episode 4 of James Gunn’s Creature Commandos pairs two of the MCU’s most ruthless killers as they break the rules to fight for the women they love.
In the present, Frankenstein and Rick Flag Sr. team up to stop the Bride Team from killing Ilana. They think Waller’s team is making a mistake, and Eric thinks he can win the bride back once he shows her the error of the mission. He has no idea that Rick is using him, since Rick has sensed Eric’s stubborn selfishness and tunnel vision. He’s been there since Bogdana, and Eric knew he had a chance to make a new life for himself. But he had to follow his obsession. Eric came across as entitled and harmful, adamant that the bride saying “no” was just a tough game to get him.. Rick plays on that.

In Eric’s eyes, the bride is his soul mate and she secretly considers him her true love.. Contrary to all the evidence that she said “no”. Frankenstein was also not forced to kill Bogdana, but he still took away his free will and choice.. His ego was so huge that he felt like she wouldn’t survive without him. She would have been hurt once he left, but he still didn’t need to be that extreme. This is not what a good son would do, and it suggests that he will continue to kill to get what he wants.
It doesn’t matter if people treat him kindly or take advantage of him. All that matters to him is his disturbing obsession with the Bride, and he is willing to harm anyone – including innocent people – who gets in his way. After Rick is broken in the fight with Creature Commandos Clayface, it’s likely he’ll abandon Rick and head to Pokolistan. Rick, after all, is as much a pawn as he is a means to an end.
Ultimately, Bogdana’s senseless death inspires viewers to hope that the Bride will teach Eric a lesson of a lifetime. Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t be worse, because if Eric interrupts the mission to kill Ilana, he could kick the end of days into high gear. But, as is the case with Frankenstein, he doesn’t care as long as he can be near his “wife” and continue their “game”.
New episodes of Creature Commandos debut on Thursdays.
