Creature Commando may quietly set up DC’s most interesting Justice League yet

Creature Commandos will be released in December and with the release of the Monstrous team, the DCU finally begins. Fans are eager to see what the DCU has to offer and Creature Commandos This will be the first glimpse of that. Superman will later be the first film of the new cinematic universe, but Creature Commandos has the potential to set up some truly special events in the DCU. The world of the DCU is already populated with countless heroes, and while Task Force M might start by focusing on Amanda Waller and her ambitions, the team could also lay the groundwork for one of the most interesting versions of DC’s Justice League.

The Justice League has not only had an ever-changing roster of heroes, but it has also had many different incarnations. There is the classic Justice League of America or the original Justice Society. The Justice League International focused on more than just threats to America, while the Justice League Odyssey took to the stars to fight for justice. Yet, one of the most fascinating versions of the team is the Justice League Dark. The JLD fights the hidden threats of the world that come from mystical realms and villains. Characters like Enchantress, Circe, and Eclipso plague them, and the JLD is uniquely suited to take on the magical threats of the world. Creature Commandos can help set up the Justice League Dark and bring magic to the DCU.

How can the Creature Commandos connect to the Justice League?

Anya Chalotra stars as Circe in Creature Commandos and is perfect for James Gunn’s DCU

Circe, played by Wonder Woman, will make her debut in Creature Commandos, and Anya Chalotra, played by The Witcher, will be the perfect casting choice to play the haunting villain.

  • Creature Commandos will be released in December 2024 and broadcast on Max.
  • Characters like Frankenstein and The Bride are also part of DC’s SHADE, Super-Human Advance Defense Executive.
  • Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. will also appear in Superman in July 2025.

At the beginning of the DCU, it’s clear that there are already many heroes active in the world. Superman may be the first hero of the DCU, but he’s not the first hero of the world. Creature Commandos Superman’s characters won’t focus on heroes, but on the “monsters” who are forced to serve Amanda Waller, much like the Suicide Squad was. Still, as fans saw with Peacemaker and Rick Flag Jr., even members of Task Force X can become heroes if they choose. Characters like Frankenstein and the Bride are already heroes in the comics, fighting to protect the world from monsters who don’t have the same sense of morality. As Superman begins to change the hearts of the other heroes, he could inspire some creatures to stage a rebellion and break free from Waller’s control. Or, since the DCU boasts a strong connectivity across all media, it could be that the Commandos make the jump to live-action and team up with the Justice League, eventually forming their own division.

The largest current connection between Creature Commandos and the potential setup for Justice League Dark is the villain Circe. Circe is a magical Wonder Woman villain who has often been at odds with Justice League Dark. Circe is expected to appear in Creature Commandos. Circe could become a threat that can’t be contained by the Commandos alone, and Waller may be forced to call on Maxwell Lord, who may have a Justice League working for him. Lord can see the Commandos in action and wants to use them as Justice League Dark. Yet when the other heroes are inspired by Superman to be more than just corporate mouthpieces, the Creatures could feel the same way and team up with others to create the legendary team.

Some Creature Commandos The characters are lost causes when it comes to heroism. Weasel is too wild to be tamed and Dr. Phosphorus enjoys his villainous ways too much to ever turn to good. Still, characters like Nina Mazursky have the potential to become great. In the comics, Nina helped create the Creature Commandos, though her early experiments failed. Nina could take her life creation skills and dark science skills and use them to fight the likes of Jason Woodrue or Anton Arcane. Frankenstein and The Bride are both well-known heroes, being true powerhouses capable of facing the greatest threats possible. The Justice League can find strong recruits among the Creature Commandos who can help defend the world against magic and mystery, threats to which characters like Superman are vulnerable.

Another easy recruit for the JLD is Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing is a fan favorite character in the JLD line and is almost always a huge asset to have. As far as fans know, Swamp Thing is not part of Creature Commandos, but he will get his own film directed by James Mangold. This only adds to the evidence that the DCU may be looking to expand beyond the traditional Justice League and move into darker territory. James Gunn has made a name for himself by taking underdog comic book teams and turning them into blockbusters. JLD would fit perfectly into that mold and open up a lot of new avenues for the DCU to explore.

The DCU is desperate to distance itself from the disaster that came before it. The DCEU was a mistake from the beginning, and fans rejected the style and tone it was trying to build. Yet the DCEU has wasted a lot of huge stories for characters like Batman, Superman, and The Flash. That means the DCU needs to look beyond the obvious stories and tap into some that are a little more unique. The introduction of Justice League Dark would allow the DCU to easily introduce characters like Madame Xanadu, Boston Brand, and Zatanna, and could bring new threats to the screen. Justice League Dark is the perfect way to touch on the darker parts of the DCU, without changing the tone of the entire DCU to be dark and grim.

Creature Commandos has excited many fans and people want to see how it will set up the future of the DCU on screen. Laying the foundation for a team like Justice League Dark is a great way to make a strong impression without losing sight of the story that Creature Commandos seeks to tell. Showing the heroic side of certain characters gives them the possibility of later joining the Justice League and facing new threats.
