Cobra Kai Reveals Mr. Miyagi’s Dark Secret and It Makes Perfect Sense

The following contains spoilers for Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2, now streaming on Netflix.

One of the main attractions of The Karate Kid the franchise was about how selfless and pure Pat Morita’s Nariyoshi Miyagi was. He taught Daniel LaRusso the art of peace and how karate can help him center himself. Unfortunately, Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 shattered that notion.

This revealed that Miyagi had a hidden past with dark secrets. NOW, Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 revealed the truth. As horrible as this is, it perfectly explains why Miyagi was so nice to Daniel.

Cobra Kai: the age of each main character

With the amount of time that has passed between the last Karate Kid movie and the Cobra Kai series, fans can’t help but wonder how old these characters are.

In episode 9, “Blood In Blood Out”, Terry Silver delivers a note to Daniel during the Sekai Taikai tournament in Barcelona. Terry mentally toys with Daniel throughout the season to no longer focus on the Miyagi-Do/Eagle Fang alliance. The envelope contains the official Sekai Taikai results, with a link to the Daniel headband found in part one.

This headband suggested that Miyagi was captain of a team during the tournament years ago. Terry’s notes confirm that Miyagi fought and killed his opponent, Claramunt.. This leaves Daniel stunned. Amanda warned him when they found Miyagi’s secret box not to judge the man. But this changes Daniel’s perception, who considers Miyagi as the father he never had. Even Johnny and Chozen are surprised. They urge Daniel to focus on his students, but it haunts him.

Additionally, he dreams of fighting Miyagi in the tournament. This evil Miyagi beats him, warning him to accept the truth. The dream Miyagi even delivers a “death” blow that wakes Daniel up. Gunther, the tournament manager, admits that back then things were different: much more violent with fewer rules followed. Always, Daniel is hurt by the idea that his teacher is a murderer.

How old is Daniel LaRusso in each Karate Kid movie and season of Cobra Kai?

The Karate Kid franchise has made great strides following Daniel’s story, but fans might be surprised by how much he’s learned in a short time.

The bombshell from Miyagi’s past makes sense because it gives context to her older self. Throughout the Karate Child films, he promoted peace, not only with Daniel, but also with Julie in The Next Karate Kid. It stands to reason that he learned from his murder realizing that aggression was not the right solution and he tried to incorporate peace into his martial arts.. This would explain why he hated Cobra Kai’s ways – they reminded him of his own anger.

As for the origin of this anger, Miyagi’s past in films may hold the key. He left Japan and came to Hawaii to escape a blood feud with Sato.. There he found a wife and worked as a farmer before studying in America. However, once World War II broke out, Miyagi’s family was sent to the Manzanar internment camp.. Miyagi became a war hero fighting for America, even teaching karate to his commanding officer, Lieutenant Jack Pierce.

Unfortunately, Miyagi’s wife and child died in the internment camp.. It could be that when Miyagi returned to the United States, his temper flared and he left for China. In part one, Daniel learned that Miyagi boxed, and in the late 1940s he was involved in a robbery and violent altercation. Miyagi allegedly stole someone’s valuables, which could explain how he got money to go to China. It seems this helped him further hone his craft and then allowed him to go to the Sekai Taikai.

Perhaps he was looking for a way to vent, which would allow him to get angry and kill someone – an act for which he sought redemption when he returned and became a gardener and handyman.. Someone who wanted to teach young people not to make mistakes and not to bully. Ultimately this hidden journey must be fully detailed in Cobra Kai Season 6, part 3. Many mysteries exist and must be solved before the Karate Kid: Legends movie. This may have been an accident, so Daniel will have to learn more before he can make a full judgment.
