Hannibal Lecter is not a new character, as he rose to fame in the early 90s thanks to Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal in one of the greatest and most influential films of all time, The silence of the lambs. However, in 2013, Bryan Fuller gave the character a new direction in the NBC series. Hannibal.
The psychological horror thriller focuses on Hannibal’s relationship with FBI Special Agent Will Graham. The series was originally planned to run for seven seasons, but that never happened after the series was canceled after season 3. Although Bryan Fuller previously spoke about his hope of rebooting Hannibal Previously, he told CBR’s Grae Drake that there were no major updates yet.
Fuller finds Hannibal lead star Mads Mikkelsen for their upcoming horror thriller Dust bunny, which premieres on December 12. While the press tour is in full swing, Hannibal was also raised. When asked if there were any updates for a Hannibal reboot, or his comments about Zendaya being his dream actor to play Clarice Starling, Fuller denied it.
“Oh, no, I think you know, you always like to throw that buoy into the sea and hope that someone will grab it and swim to shore with it,” Fuller began of his dream project. Earlier this year he explained: “My dream project is to make a limited series of The silence of the lambs with Mads and Zendaya as Clarice Starling. If I could put anything in the universe, I would put it in the universe. »
“Not yet,” Fuller added. However, he teased that the cast was still ready to return, even 10 years later. “But we’re still waiting, we’re all waiting to get back in Hannibal‘s wardrobe and experience more adventures.

Returning to the activity of Dust Bunnywhere the characters eat each other everywhere, the filmmaker was asked which character in his filmography was “the most edible”.
Returning to Hannibal, the filmmaker replied: “The most edible, it depends on whose point of view. I would say Will Graham is the most edible for Hannibal.”
The next Dust Bunny is a passion project for Fuller, apart from his Hannibal reunion with Mikkelsen, as it marks his directorial debut. The horror thriller also stars scream king David Dastmalchian, Sigourney Weaver, Sheila Atim and Sophie Sloan. It follows an eight-year-old girl who asks her hitman neighbor to help her kill the monster under her bed.
Hannibal enchanted critics and audiences
Despite NBC’s decision to end Hannibal before the series officially began to make its mark, it was a hit with audiences and critics. The series holds an overall rating of 93% from critics and 94% from audiences.
Season 1 had the lowest score of all, a still exciting 83% approval score and a Certified Fresh score. The next two seasons received 98% approval from critics. At the same time, the audience was consistent with scores above 90%. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for NBC to renew the series.
The original plan was to last seven seasons. The first three would set the scene with original material, before adapting Red Dragon in season 4, The silence of the lambs in season 5, and Hannibal in season 6. For season 7, this would introduce another original story to resolve Hannibal’s ending. However, plans changed over the years and Fuller admitted that he wanted the series to last six seasons. In the end, he never got that far.
Hannibal is broadcast on Prime Video.
