Netflix’s new animated phenomenon ‘Blue Eyed Samurai’ is aiming for a second season and expansion beyond the series.
Netflix brought us ‘Blue Eyed Samurai’ in 2023, a series that has quickly become one of my favorites. It is a masterpiece of master animation with a visually stunning presentation and a fascinating plot. It is not a series to watch with children as it contains a lot of violence and nudity. But what really stands out is the revenge story and the main character, a true warrior who never stops.
Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, the brains behind this project and known for works like ‘Logan’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’, have confirmed long-term plans for ‘Blue Eyed Samurai’. Not only will there be a second season, but the journey will continue for four seasons and culminate in a movie. In an interview with Screen Rant, they revealed that they are even considering possible spin-offs.
Planning and future views
According to Nozumi, they have many stories waiting to be told. Green added that the second season already has a confirmed script and that, in depth, they want to have at least three or four seasons. As long as the audience responds well to the original content, they will know the end of this story and be eager to continue.
The series focuses on a samurai in Edo period Japan, on a quest for revenge. Described as a “thrilling and visually stunning” series, it combines adult animation with a touch of live action. Following Mizu is a mixed-race swordsman, played by Maya Erskine, who remains anonymously seeking revenge.
Amazing sound recording
The voice cast includes George Takei, Kari-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Masi Oka, Randall Park, Darren Barnett and Brenda Song. The mix of talent gives the audience a rich and varied experience.
Green and Noizumi explained that although ‘Blue Eyed Samurai’ was set 400 years ago in their original ad, the theme is contemporary and the inspiration deeply personal. Kudos to Netflix for their passion and bold vision for a sophisticated animated drama.
