The diabolical trap

If you thought that the adventures of Blake and Mortimer were only persecutions between British square jaw and bad with tupé, something that, being honest, we saw in the two previous albums, The diabolical trap It comes to demonstrate that there is also space for time travel and existential dilemmas.

In this adventure, poor Professor Mortimer is the one that takes the worst part. Imagine that they invite you to a home house in France and, instead of a good cheese and wine, you will find a time machine. That’s right, someone has decided that the best guinea pig for such a gadget is a stupid Scottish with the bad habit of getting into trouble. What follows is a parade of past and future times in which our beloved scientist has a bad moment, or dodge the barbarians, survive a dystopian future or try not to cancel the space-time continuum.

The story maintains the rhythm until, at a certain point, the author realizes that you have to close and does it with a flight that can leave you with a crooked ass. But the journey was really fun, with that aroma of the classic comic in which science is magical with more equations and the bad guys always have a more search plan than necessary.

The case of the collar

If our adventurers have a special ability, in addition to issuing paragraphs worthy of a mass, it is putting absurd dimensions in trouble. In The case of the collar What begins as a quiet search on a mysterious robbery in the world of high jewels ends up becoming a plot of deceptions and conspiracies, with the villanesco Olrik appearing his nose.

The story begins with the most refined robbery: someone has stolen the legendary collar of María AntonietaWhat has already caused problems in pre-reports France and our favorite British cannot avoid entering garlic. We are in this way with a story that combines mystery and action with that classic crazy adventure, much less surprising than the previous one but not less attractive … well, a little yes.

The investigative history advances between false and suspicious clues with the face of a few friends and that feeling that the fate of western civilization may depend on a simple old Pedrusco. And all while the chemistry between the two protagonists fattens everything to make the set much better in the reader’s gaznate.

The 3 formulas of Professor Sato

Something we learned with Jacobs’ stories is that scientists with too much free time always end up putting a pifostio together. In The 3 formulas of Professor Sato This rule is satisfied. We find the good of Philip Mortimer Travel to Japan to visit an old colleague, the teacher SateWhich turns out to be a genius of robotics that managed to create such advanced androids who, of course, someone wants to use them to hurt. Who? Obviously it is the type of hair repeated with a frustrated dictator who already appears in the previous adventure …

It is interesting to see the action transferred to Tokyo, with an atmosphere that mixes the Japanese tradition with top technology (for the 70s, of course). But the most curious thing about this story is that it was unfinished after Jacobs’ death and was Bob de Moor who finished the second volume, trying to follow the teacher’s style and tone. The change is noticed (in the worst), but the work of the new author is worthy. However, because of this circumstance this would be the weakest of the three stories of this volume.

In the graphic section throughout the volume we find Jacobs who, as always, looks with his millimeter design, where every cartoon seems designed with a team and bell. Despite the immense and infinite text paintings, the truth is that once in the universe of Blake and Mortimer this ends up not being a problem as it might seem fat, and it is the narrative work of the author who helps the reader who does not want to hit a blow when he reaches the ninth paragraph of the same page.
