Bear season 4 flicker, but it finally responds to 1 of the very debated subjects of the show

The following contains spoilers for the bear season 4, now streaming on Hulu.

Some recipes are classic for a reason. Take, for example, a birthday cake. There are so many different flavors to use that there is something for almost everyone. It is as much more than the cherry on a soft terry dessert; It is a celebration of his life, shared with the people they love. But as some people age, their taste buds change and mature. Maybe they would like a pie or cookies for their birthday. Giving them a cake is always a traditional and tasty gesture, but that’s not what they to want. The same could be said about season 4 of FX The bear. The Christopher Storer (also creator and director) and Joanna Calo showrunners stick to the original recipe that has excelled in the past, but over time, the fatigue of the same old thing is starting to get started.

Just like the way season 3 reflected the mixed review of the restaurant’s criticism in the final of the season, life imitates art in season 4. There is so much good in the fourth season, which finds Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto who continues to innovate new ways of bringing the Bear restaurant to its greatest potential. The episodes focused on the characters make humans already intimately designed even more human, and the series has made improvements related to the plot since season 3. On the other hand, some ingredients do not improve the current flavors as much. The series lost its momentum in many ways, fighting to follow its own success which was created by the bustle of the culture of restaurants during major transitions. The good side is that season 4 proves that it can always find new ways to keep the series open to business – it must simply readjust the recipe (or even find a new one) to make it as delicious as in season 1.

Ayo Edebiri leads an incredible casting in the bear of season 4

The best character in the FX Show lives up to his reputation

Food and characters are the heart of The bear. Without the characters, there would be no one to make food. Without food, there would be no story to show the magic of gathering people through a good meal. The last season ended with the bear staff who frequent the restaurant of Chef Terry. Carmy had a moment of bravery confronted with his former chief, but was overthrown by the exam by an obscured criticism of the bears and missed calls of computer and Jimmy. Sydney was offered a job by chief Shapiro and had not yet signed the partnership agreement with Carmy. At least, Richie seemed to have a glimmer of hope in his future.

This brings The bear In season 4. After the mixed examination that criticized the bear but praised the beef window operations, Jimmy and the computer threaten to close the restaurant in two months if the profit does not increase. As the staff feel the heat, more on their insecurity and their difficulties arise. Nothing incredibly new is said on the interior characters of the agitation like Marcus, Tina or even Carmy and Richie with. Marcus and Tina still walk on thin ice, trying to prove their value in a world class restaurant that bleeds money. Carmy and Richie continue to dive into their own foster of despair, the latter increasingly embracing the tortured trope artist these days.

“The star of the show, and it should go without saying, is Ayo Edebiri like Sydney.”

The Ayo Edebiri de l’Ours has lost its role as MCU by abandoning the Thunderbolts * (and it gave very important advice to its replacement)

Ayo Edebiri helped convince his own replacement to accept his role in Thunderbolts *.

Each actor is fabulous in his own way. Jeremy Allen White has a certain sadness about him that even when Carmy is a giant idiot (which is almost always), you can’t help but want to hug him. Ebon Moss-Bachrach transformed Richie into a fully expanded character who is no longer afraid of revealing his weakness. But the star of the show, and it should go without saying, is Ayo Edebiri like Sydney. Like his character, Edebiri is a natural leader who makes any scene work, whether in a nightmarish dream sequence or in a whole speaking on the menu planning characters.

The bear Recognizes the power of Edebiri, making Sydney the co-protagonist of season 4. It is possible to say that she is even the main character, especially after the final. Her deepest work comes in episode 4 (co-written by Edebiri and Lionel Boyce) and episode 6. The old episode sees her in his normal and most fun state outside the kitchen, which is always a wonder to testify. This last place Sydney in its most stressful environment to date, and Edebiri offers its most emotionally raw performance to date. Characters like Sydney, more Carmy and Richie, should give The bear A price for the most relatable representations of the human condition on television. On another big note, the EBRA (Edwin Lee Gibson) leads one of the most important intrigules in the series which unfortunately does not carry entirely, but has another objective: it shows one of the most effective means of giving a autonomy of minor support in a large distribution.

Trained history beats and familiar episode structures do not hit the same

The journey of each character navigates this rather incoherent story to reach a destination that always seems fair. Coherence in the development of the character testifies to the love of storers and Calo for humanity, faults and everything. They understand that people are messy, complicated but capable of so much goodness. This could not be more true with Donna Berzatto by Jamie Lee Curtis, who makes a heavy punch in episode 9. It is a shame that showrunners do not know how to write a plot as good as their characters. Halfway through the season, it becomes obvious that the fourth season was shot consecutive with season 3, not having taken into account the criticism which rightly expresses the concern that The bear is a victim of his own success.

Again, season 4 is taken in a vicious history cycle. The same conflicts occur in the same form without a ton of resolution. Carmy does not know how to invent things with Claire, the restaurant’s finances leave her more vulnerable for Jimmy to take the catch, and Sydney has still not decided to leave the bear. The latter is at least ultimately resolved, but takes too much time to do so. The basic problem dates back to the metaphor for the front recipe. The bear is somewhat stuck in her traditional recipe because she once worked surprisingly well before, but viewers have eaten the same cake as much as becoming boring. Ironically, this classic recipe once broke the tradition on television. People expect The bear Having one or two episodes that depart from the main plot to focus on a singular character. They also expect that he has long scenes of dialogue which could last half of an episode, or a disastrous Berzatto family meeting where the howling matches are equal for the course.

“All the staples of The bear are now watered down because they have already been exaggerated so many times. “”

Ayo Edebiri opens with the realization of his co-stars in the best classified episode of season 3 of Bear

On the 21st time the prime hours Emmy Dramedy The Bear received mixed criticism for season 3, but an episode stood out.

Season 4 has all these things, but most of these formerly special devices feel performative now. Episode 7 lasts an hour and seven minutes with everyone at Tiffany’s wedding reception and is a total chore to pass, but he obviously tries to be the spiritual successor of season 2, of episode 6, “Fishes”. Spoiler alert: it fails. The same episode also brings a stellar cameo to represent a character who has been a racing joke for so long. The final is a conversation between Carmy and Sydney (and later joined by Richie and Natalie) which has an incredible game but could have done the job in the 10 minutes. Long scenes of dialogue often pierce the story that say a lot of nothing to sound deeply and retrospective, when in reality it storing the intrigue. Claire and Carmy. And at this stage, Claire and Jessica are essentially tools to allow surrounding men to lose their armor and answer more questions about themselves. All staples of The bear are now watered down because they have already been exaggerated so many times. The reason why something is special is that it is so rarely done.

This does not mean that these episodes have no goal. They all say something about fear and friendships. The final is not even bad; It just does The bear seems far too in love with himself. On the other hand, episode 4 is a perfect example of a refreshing break from the main plot. Sydney’s visit with the daughter of her cousin advances the global history by giving her perspective on her current situation and her family life thanks to a metaphor of the intelligent pajama evening. It also seems to be a sneaky way to introduce more from Sydney’s family to position them in a main role if Carmy takes a major step back.

Bear season 4 lacks time (and reason to call it a comedy)

It is time to admit that the bear is not a comedy

Endulture in the aforementioned devices means that showrunners look like Tina who has trouble getting her pasta dish out in less than three minutes. Many things happen, and the slow pace makes it difficult to pay attention to everything rightly. Credit where credit is due, the ways not linked to the floor that the show uses its time is still visually a masterpiece. Cinematography is a love letter to cooking, the people who do it and Chicago as a whole. The sincere connection is expressed by the preparation of food, both in the box form of the grocery store and delicately prepared in a high -end restaurant. The film scenes are also used to tell the interior dialogue of the characters, as well as perfectly chosen needle drops.

But The bear Season 4 also finally responds to one of his most abundant subjects: is this a comedy? The consensus of its comic capacities is that it is subjective to each spectator, but if The bear Shouldn’t dominate the comedy categories each season of eligible awards, should it be slightly more objective? To judge by season 4, it is just to say that it is not a comedy in the same way as Succession Or Break the bad is not a comedy. It can be funny, but in a natural way that does not intentionally push a punchline. On the average episode of 30 minutes of season 4, there are probably five minutes of equipment to laugh. The other 25 minutes are structured as a direct drama. And let’s be honest, Neil and Ted Fak are still there only the Shakespearean comic rescue duo to respond to these qualifications “ha ha”. While Jeremy Allen White is a captivating drama actor, he is not An actor of comedy like Martin Short.

It is ironic that the theme of season 4 is time, or its absence, and The bear Don’t know how to use it very well. Hypothetically, if the only episode of an hour was not used to try to ensure that Richie’s daughter on the dance floor and Natalie and Francie Fak to answer why they hate each other, then perhaps more important subpcelles would have found a resolution. But strangely, despite these faults that make its history completely aimlessly, The bear Stay as a show to invest. The clock that turns in the restaurant parachute increases the anxiety and tension necessary to continue to look at the story, even if it is not really going nowhere. These characters are essentially family at this stage. Seeing them grow and overcoming personal and professional challenges is the interest of The bear. It could be stuck in the same loop of “bleeding” for 10 seasons, but the average spectator will always applaud each time Marcus is recognized for his hard work. If The bear Being in the sincerity of your work of character and would cut the self-indulgent generalizations of what made this special spectacle to start, then he and his fictitious restaurant could hover without his current pretentious nature.
