Joining a successful franchise after several successful directors can be daunting and bring a lot of pressure. Fortunately, Alien: Romulus seems worthy of all previous entries in the franchise.




First reactions for Fede Álvarez Alien: Romulusthe seventh part of the Stranger franchise, are here, and they are encouraging. The director follows in the footsteps of directors like Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and David Fincher, but it seems he is forging his own path. Ahead of the film’s premiere, Alien: Romulus has been praised for how it fits into the franchise.

According to initial reactions, Alien: Romulus is a successful entry. The long-awaited space horror plays like a “greatest hits” in the series, which began with Ridley Scott’s 1979 StrangerWhile full reviews haven’t been released yet and there’s no Rotten Tomatoes rating yet, early screenings have given critics plenty to rave about.


Germain Lussier of Gizmodo noted on X that the film “is a crazy roller coaster ride through the previous six Stranger moviesusing pieces of each of them, to tIt’s a concentrated, mostly self-contained story filled with blood and glorious scares.. It gets better as you go alongending with a phenomenal big swing in a third act.”

Jazz Tangcay of Variety wrote that Alien: Romulus is “easily” one of the best films in the franchise. Fede Álvarez does not disappoint,” before praising the world-building and sound, noting the “The practical effects are so good that the movie gave me nightmares.“Fangoria’s Eric Vespe praised the film, writing that, “Alien: Romulus is absolutely beautiful and kind of pays homage to every movie that came out before ite. Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson are good leads, and the alien effects are very satisfying. The ending will be divisive, but I loved it. Big fan of this one.



Alien: Romulus takes place between the events of the first film, that of 1979 Stranger and its 1986 sequel AliensHowever, this is a standalone film and not a sequel to any of the films. Alien: RomulusThe cast includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. Álvarez directed and co-wrote the film with Rodo Sayagues and was produced by Scott Free Productions and Brandywine Productions, with Ridley Scott serving as producer.

Ridley Scott praised Alien: Romulus

Fede Álvarez admitted that he first presented the idea to Ridley Scott and that he consulted him and constantly asked for his opinion during the production.
