One of the biggest box office hits of 2025, not counting superhero films, is Fantastic Four: first stepswhich saw the long-awaited debut of Marvel’s first family of powerful costumed vigilantes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From now on, the wait for the arrival of the new Fantastic Four in the homes of Disney+ subscribers is over.
As of Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the action-packed and heartfelt sci-fi film, which grossed a total of $521.9 million at the worldwide box office, is now available to stream on Disney+. Fantastic Four: first steps was previously available digitally for rental or purchase on September 23 and is available on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and DVD the following month.
From director Matt Shakman, who previously directed the Emmy Award-winning series WandaVision for Disney+, Fantastic Four: first steps is another emotionally charged comic book adaptation with a unique, old-fashioned aesthetic. Set in an alternate reality that feels like the 1960s if technology had advanced over the decades, the story follows the flexible Reed “Mr. Fantastic” Richards (Pedro Pascal), his force-field-wielding wife, Susan “Invisible Woman” Richards (Vanessa Kirby), Sue’s arsonist younger brother, Johnny “Human Torch” Storm (Joseph Cross), and their rock-skinned friend, Ben “The Thing” Grimm (The Punisher(Ebon Moss-Bachrach).
Four years after an accident during a space mission transformed them into super-powered protectors of their world, the team finds themselves facing their greatest challenge yet when a mysterious alien known as the Silver Surfer (three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner) warns that a divine being called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) has chosen to consume their planet. With the fate of the world in their hands, the Fantastic Four are forced to make an unimaginable decision that not only puts all of humanity in danger, but also the life of Reed and Sue’s newborn son, Franklin.
The future of the Fantastic Four in the MCU
Following a The 1994 Fantastic Four film, never officially released, and two critically maligned reboots in 2005 and 2015, Fantastic Four: first steps finally gave fans of writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby’s beloved creation of over 60 years an on-screen image iteration that they can be proud of. So we can be sure that there will be more members of this family to see in the MCU. Of course, that was already written in the stars.
The Fantastic Four’s debut in the franchise had already been announced a few months earlier in the post-credit sequence of Love at first sight*in which the eponymous team, now called The New Avengers, witnesses a spaceship bearing a large number “4” crash into their reality. Even before, the stars of Fantastic Four: first steps were confirmed as part of the pileup Avengers: Apocalypse shown during Marvel Studios’ viral live announcement video.
However, the ultimate clue to the Fantastic Four’s role in the upcoming fifth Avengers The film, which will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, is based on the post-credits scene of their own film in which four-year-old Franklin Richards is visited by Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. This sequence suggests that, similar to Galactus’s plans, Victor von Doom wishes to use the child’s reality-warping abilities to rule the Multiverse.
The Fate of the Fantastic Four Beyond Avengers: doomsday is currently uncertain. However, it seems inevitable that they will have more adventures in the MCU.
