Speculation Erupts About Sadie Sink’s Secret Role In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

After months of speculation, Sadie Sink’s role in Spider-Man: A Whole New Day may have been revealed. New set photos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film suggest she will play a character with close ties to The Punisher.

The r/MCULheories subreddit exploded with speculative posts following the release of photos showing Sink awaiting action on Spider-Man: A Whole New Day. While the actor’s costume was largely covered by a jacket, eagle-eyed fans noticed that she appeared to be wearing camouflage pants and boots. Additionally, set photos confirmed that Sink would keep her red hair for the film. These two details combined make many believe that the actor will play Rachel Cole in Brand new daya character that was introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics. The Punisher in 2011.

Created by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto, Rachel Cole first appeared in The Punisher (Vol.9) #1. A former Marine sergeant, Rachel is the Punisher’s redheaded ally who has appeared in several Punisher-linked comics since its beginnings. While Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is expected to cross paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the film, Sink playing Rachel Cole would align with what scooper Alex Perez shared in August 2025 about the actor’s character being “an ally of Peter.” [Parker]However, the fact that Sink is the actor behind Rachel Cole would contradict John Rocha’s recent claim that the Punisher would have a black sidekick in Brand new dayalthough it’s possible that Rocha’s source at Marvel Studios intentionally misled him to keep Sink’s casting a secret.

Who else could Sadie Sink play?

Sink is rumored for almost every major female Marvel character at this point, especially red-haired ones like Mary Jane Watson, X-MenIt’s Jean Gray and Firestar. While a rumor dating from September 2025 on Brand new day having a female shapeshifter villain initially led some fans to speculate that Sink might be the big bad, set photos have seemingly debunked this, unless Sink’s physical appearance is one of the many “disguises” the shapeshifter wears to get closer to Peter Parker and Spider-Man. However, this remains purely speculative and should be taken with a grain of salt until it is officially confirmed by Sony or Marvel.

Sink is one of three actors whose role has not yet been revealed. Fans are also no closer to knowing who Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman are playing, although new set photos from the former suggest she plays Jean DeWolff, a police detective and Spider-Man ally who was a frequent fixture in the superhero’s comics between her introduction in 1976 and her death in the four-part storyline “The Death of Jean DeWolff” in 1985.

The rest of the cast is made up of returning stars from the MCU, with the sole exception of Marvin Jones III who plays Tombstone, in which he previously voiced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In addition to Holland and Bernthal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando will all return as MJ, Ned, Bruce Banner/Hulk and Scorpion, respectively.

Spider-Man: A Whole New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
