At New York Comic Con, Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, led a panel revealing a number of developments at Marvel, both in Marvel Animation and Marvel Television. CBR was on hand at the panel to walk you through everything that was revealed at the event.
The event, hosted by Brandon Davis, was divided into two sections. One for Marvel Animation, then another for Marvel Television (the live action series). Trailers have been released for all five series, and we’ll discuss all five shows in their own section below. Before we get into that, though, it’s worth quoting Winderbaum when discussing the importance of Marvel’s 85-year history in making television series:
We build on this 85-year legacy. Many writers, artists and filmmakers have passed these characters from one generation to the next. When we talk about creating shows that can last multiple seasons, it’s really about relationships between characters that have been built over time. Whether it’s Peter Parker and Lonnie Lincoln, or Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, these are characters who challenge each other and force themselves to grow, and that’s what allows for multiple seasons.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2
The first trailer was for Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2. Winderbaum introduced the trailer, noting: “Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 will launch in fall 2026 and it is an incredible show. It picks up where the other left off. Jeff Trammell, our showrunner, is really interested in the history of these characters, particularly Peter Parker and his personal history. And when that bubbles up these days, it causes a lot of tension and anxiety in this whole thing, as you can imagine. It’s sort of personified by this black, oozing substance that some of you may be familiar with. »
And sure enough, at one point in the trailer we see the Venom symbiote when Spider-Man investigates Oscorp to check on Norman Osborn to make sure he’s not up to something bad. The trailer also shows the debut of Gwen Stacy and sees Doctor Octopus, Chameleon and Scorpion causing trouble for Spider-Man. We also see that Nico Minoru begins to explore his magical abilities.
The trailer ends with Spider-Man confronting Blindspot and Daredevil, who is of course voiced by Charlie Cox.
X-Men ’97 Season 2
Winderbaum introduced Eric Lewald and Julia Lewald, the creators of the original X-Men series, and announced that they were now executive producers of X-Men ’97Also. Winderbaum also confirmed that the series will have a third season, but first, they revealed the trailer for the second season, which will be released in summer 2026.
The trailer opens with flashbacks to Apocalypse’s original appearance in the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, then reveals that the X-Men were spread out in time after the events of the first season finale. Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Xavier and Magneto are in ancient Egypt, while Cyclops and Jean Gray are in the distant future. Cyclops and Jean Gray appear to star in an adaptation of the miniseries, The Adventures of Cyclops and the Phoenix, which saw the two heroes raising Nathan Summers in the future.
The trailer also confirmed that Wolverine survived his near-death experience with Magneto, and he and Morph appear to team up with Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike in the “present” (of the series, meaning it’s the 1990s. Bishop notes that they need to take the X-Men back to the ’90s).
There’s then a quick look at various other characters, like the 1990s government version of X-Factor, Psylocke and Archangel, Polaris, Danger, as well as Jean and Cyclops wearing versions of their New X-Men costumes from the iconic Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely in the series. Sunspot and Jubliee continue to spend time together, and Sunspot shows off a version of his 1990s X-Force costume. Omega Red makes an appearance, as does Colossus.
Daredevil Born Again Season 2
One of the most anticipated trailer debuts was Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and the trailer was filled with good moments, like Matt Murdock and Karen Page getting back together, while Bullseye continues to roam free around the city. After Matt and Karen share a tender moment together, their happiness is ruined when Matt is hit by some sort of sonic weapon.
We saw the return of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, as well as the introduction of Matthew Lillard’s mysterious new character. Daredevil is involved in at least one costumed brawl with some cops (whom we see walking around town in their armored uniforms), and he grins maniacally at Wilson Fisk’s task force (even though we see that the task force has a number of people caged in one of their bases).
It’s an intense trailer, and when Charlie Cox appeared after the trailer, he was asked about Season 1’s downbeat ending, and he noted, “What’s great about that ending, when we shot it, was I was like, ‘Well, we haven’t wrapped anything up yet, we’ll probably do it again.’ We like to put on a show; it’s a joy. They are such a wonderful team. We all get along so well. Surprisingly, Vincent and I are really good friends off-screen, so the longer we keep doing that, the better.”
Krysten Ritter then came out too and spoke again about her collaboration with Cox: “Honestly, we looked at each other like, ‘Can you believe this?’ It felt surreal, but also like no time had passed. I love Charlie so much, as a person and as an actor with him. I always did it. I love playing these characters. It was big, festive and larger than life. »
Wonderful man
Wonder Man is the only one of the five series for which Marvel has officially released the trailer that debuted in New York. You can see it above.
Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II explained how he got involved with the series: “My first introduction was a conversation with Destin [Destin Daniel Cretton, the executive producer of the series]which is incredible. I wanted to work with Destin ever since I saw Short term 12. We sat down a few years ago and I said, “Look, I want to eat a hamburger. “I wanted to play a guy who can eat a hamburger, because I had been very serious in the DC world, which was great, but I wanted to do something different, where I could live and breathe and smile, be nervous, be happy. Destiny made this possible. I’m thrilled to be here on the Marvel side.”
Co-star Sir Ben Kingsley also spoke about Cretton’s importance while detailing his long history playing Trevor Slattery/Mandarin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: “Kevin Feige came to my house and explained to me the duality of Trevor and the Mandarin, which, for me as an actor, was threatening, as you can imagine. Then I moved on to the short film. Hail to all the king, written and directed by Drew Pearce, which was a complete surprise. Then Destin called my house in England and asked if I would consider joining [the Shang Chi film. Kingsley said Wonder Man, but he presumably meant Shang-Chi based on the timeline]. I didn’t answer the phone, Trevor Slattery answered the phone and Destin was laughing so hard; it was a joy to hear it. And then the fourth incarnation, with dear Yahya, to answer briefly, it was a total surprise. But all the good things that happen to actors, if we’re really focused on our craft and love our craft, life is a total surprise, surprise after surprise. It’s a gift that keeps on giving, as my friend Pierce Brosnan once told me.”
VisionQuest
The presentation ended with an overview of upcoming VisionQuest series. We had a full article on this trailer here on CBR, so just read that article. Paul Bettany was on the panel, so we’ll add his explanation of the series: “Red Vision gave Vision all of his memories, including those of the Hex, but White Vision has real difficulty connecting to them. He has the memories, but not the emotion. This is White Vision’s journey in the series: his attempt to connect to those memories and to who he was.”
So the series takes place primarily in White Vision’s head, where he interacts with human versions of all the different AIs we’ve encountered in the MCU over the years, including JARVIS, FRIDAY, EDITH, and, of course, Ultron, played by the flesh-and-blood James Spader. The series also features a young adult version of Tommy, Vision and Wanda’s other son (the brother Billy was trying to find at the end of Agatha throughout).
The series will begin in 2026.
