While the Apple TV + series The morning show is well established, each season brings new characters and actors in the fold. Alex Levy by Jennifer Aniston is now in charge of a network, and Bradley Jackson by Reese Witherspoon takes care of the fallout from this season 3 Cliffhanger. Entering the scrum in this last season is a powerful woman of a rich and powerful family, Céline Dumont, played by Marion Cotillard.
An actor with an impressive curriculum vitae, Cotillard speaks to CBR in this exclusive interview on Céline’s presentation and the sharing of the metaphorical scene with John Stewart’s actor, Aaron Pierre. Among the faithful of DC Comics, Cotillard is best known as Talia al Ghul de The black knight goes upEven if she doesn’t like her death scene. In The morning show, She plays an antagonist of a different type, but familiar to fans of this series. She is a woman in power who must face morally disturbing choices to maintain a position of power that the men of her life do not think that she deserves. But of course, no character in the world of “Ubn” is never really a hero or a bad guy. What makes the prestige drama of Apple TV + worthy of its status is the complexity of the characters and the way in which the storytellers dare not to force any of their characters to be sympathetic or even sympathetic.
CBR: The morning show Often tells stories about women and sailing on the dynamics of power, and season 4 is unique because it concerns the dynamics of power between women on a professional level. Céline arrives like a very powerful woman and you are, well, You, So, does it have been going to do this set that has already been informing your approach of the character for some time?
Marion Cotillard: Yes, Céline is a very interesting character because she is the president of the board of directors. Thus, it has a very high place and a powerful place in the network. And she is also a very complex character. There are a lot of expectations around her on what she is going to do. And obviously, as a woman, she has a lot to prove because we expect a woman today to always prove himself.
At the same time, she has this need for recognition of her father, as if she had been set up in a way by her family, who is also super powerful. And so she is in a way trapped in her desire to have her place, her desire to do much better than what was expected of her, and at the same time, to adapt to the box.
These are a lot of angles to play. Does this kind of complexity are you looking for in a role?
A complex character is so fun to build, do you know? A strong, complex and also human [person]. And even his weakness, I mean, constitutes such a strong personality.
The morning show Also mixes the staff and the professional, but Céline’s story is a little different in this regard. You share scenes with Aaron Pierre, who plays someone close to you, so how was it to work with him and establish your dynamics?
I think it made sense when I saw him, and I first talked to him to discover what they thought of us too, as a couple. I think we are very intense actors and the first conversation we had was very deep, very spiritual. And I knew we would have this link which was very special.
These two characters have a very special relationship and a very strong connection. I had seen Aaron’s film, Brother, So I’m really looking forward to working with him. And the work was, as I expected, very intense and very true and very authentic.
Season 4 in the morning is broadcast on Wednesday on Apple TV +.
