Inherited consequences can be difficult to nail. When you follow a beloved film – in particular the one that has built a dedicated fans base over the decades – there are many factors to consider. How much tribute is too tribute? Can the intrigue of the suite justify the continuation of history? And above all, is the new film up to its predecessor?

Director Kyle Newacheck was not part of the original HAPPY Gilmore In 1996, but he was delighted to be brought to continue the story (and relaunch one of the most loved characters of Adam Sandler) almost 30 years later. According to all measures, it was a success: Happy Gilmore 2 ASTIPPE LES PERMARES DE Netflix since its beginnings on Friday. In an interview with CBR, Newacheck discusses retirement with Sandler after Mystery of murderThe many cameos of the film, and which found this shocking turn in the opening of the film.

CBR: There are so many big cameras in this area. Which one was your favorite?

Kyle Newacheck: Oh guy is like impossible.

Well, who were you most surprised to land?

Well, I really liked working with John Daly. I would not call him a cameo, however, because he really has a very big role. But for the cameos … Eminem. Come on. Now it’s a real cameo.

Who surprised you the most with their performance?

I think I was most surprised by Bad Bunny – Benito – because he brought so much. I knew he was obviously a talent. But I did not know what his game caliber was. I was just not sure – I had nothing to base him really. And the role he plays is a bit like this comic relief and this lights to Sandler a little. But what he brought was something much deeper, I think. I don’t know what it was. He just has a depth for him which was, like, more than what I expected.

This is your second collaboration with Adam Sandler. At the time you did Mystery of murder Together, did you already expect you to be here, having made a series of one of his most loved comedies?

No not at all. No way.

Have you felt stress so that it is up to the original?

Yeah, this is the first continuation that I made. And for it to be a series of the film I watched when I was a child, that Look-Key inspired me to take this career path, it was a full moment in a very surreal way. But I like what I do, and I like to work with Adam and I like the first and I love comedy. I love being part of making people laugh.

I normally do a lot of avant-garde things. It is not as upset as what I do normally. And I really really enjoyed it. Because it is something that is the first time in my career, it is something that my niece and my nephew can look. I have never seen him coming. He just appeared.

The original Gilmore was polarizing. Adam Sandler’s new Netflix sequel leans in everything that made him divisor.

Who landed on the idea of killing the character of Julie Bowen Virginia at the very beginning of the film?

This came out of Tim and Adam’s brain. As soon as I read it on the page, I was just stuck, you know? I just wanted to know more and see what happens to happy. It hung me.

I was so curious and it’s a Lean at the time for me. Now, I also want to emphasize, however, that in the first film, there is also a tragedy around him in the first five minutes – his father died because of a puck of hockey on the face. So it’s not unrelated to this universe to deal with tragedy, you know? It’s baked in the oven.

I mean, look, it’s a tragedy. And it will face sorrow. So that’s what Happy Gilmore case in this film. He tries to understand how to manage his guilt and sorrow and how to move on. So I think, if something, it puts the audience in the main character so that in the end, you feel like you’ve done something with your character, which is the most important part of a film.
