The real Baran was able to fight against an entirely propelled Ashborn, which was infinitely more powerful than Jinwoo during his raid through the castle of the Demon. Jinwoo even said so much, realizing “if it was me with my current statistics, my Mana would have hit the bottom.” While Jinwoo is far from being strong enough to defeat the real Baran until much later in the series, the same goes for Ashborn.

In the flashback, Jinwoo is a witness to Ashborn killing Baran, marking the final end of the real demon monarch. While Ashborn is unable to raise another monarch like his ghost soldier, he holds domination over death itself-and that includes the beyond. After Ashborn killed the demon monarch, he captures his soul and sends him to the beyond, where he stays until he is encountered by the son of Sung Jinwoo in the events of events Solo leveling: Ragnarok.

The Baran Jinwoo fought in episode 20 was never real to start – it was only a simulation created for the system based on a memory that Ashborn had of its first with the monarchs and the leaders.
