First details on Aetherdrift, the edition of Magic: The Gathering that unites the races

On the occasion of the future release of Aetherdrift, the new edition of Magic: The Gathering (MTG), we had the opportunity to attend the presentation of a quick list of the new features of the new collection. It will go on sale on February 14th and it will be a very special collection because it will take players on a multiversal, adrenaline-filled ride across three different planes.

Today, January 21st, all the details are revealed, which can be followed on the official Magic:The Gathering YouTube channel: MTG CHANNEL.

Aetherdrift comes to Magic: The Gathering with very fresh ideas and new mechanics

New cards and mechanics are something you can always expect in every edition of Magic: The Gathering, but this time Aetherdrift has something different. The world of racing moves on different levels and has generated a series of fast and dangerous events. Speedy, dizzying and dangerous racing has arrived on MTG. The vehicles take center stage, but not only that, the feeling of being in a multiversal race full of challenges and, as it couldn’t be otherwise, creatures that want to win all the races has been added.

On the occasion of the future release of Aetherdrift, the new edition of Magic: The Gathering (MTG), we had the opportunity to attend the presentation of a quick list of the new features of the new collection.

One of the most surprising changes is that guilds have become clans or racing teams, with some legendary creatures feeling like they’re in charge of everything.

A story full of speed, a battle on wheels with a three-story objective

The city of Ghirapur is overflowing with enthusiasm, the engines are revved up and the pilots prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime event. The fun begins on February 14, 2025 with the launch of Ethereal drift! As an epic year of Standard collections begins, follow Chandra Nalaar and the Ghirapur Grand Prix, a three-story race for an astonishing prize. For this reason there will be new mechanics and the search for “maximum speed” to win races.

The new edition invites you to get behind the wheel and step on the accelerator in one of ten different racing teams, each with their own surprising (and sometimes transgressive) strategies. The speed (e.g Magic: the gathering) that’s all, so we will have to try to bring our deck to the finish line and win the Ghirapur Grand Prix prize.

The ride began on January 13, 2025 with the publication of the story by Ethereal drift In DailyMTG. After reading this, we’re fully immersed in experiencing a high-capacity adventure with the collection’s launch on February 14, 2025 or launch events at your local game store starting February 7.

More details on the collection will expand later, but for now here’s a first look Ethereal drift.

The Ghirapur Grand Prix has an eye-catching reward: the Etherspark, a device theoretically capable of controlling a Planeswalker’s spark energy. If Chandra is to win for Nissa, his companion, he will have to face the best in the race across Muraganda, Amonkhet and his home planet Avishkar.

The reasons for Avishkar’s name change are discussed at length, both in his universe and outside of it, on WeeklyMTG and in this article.
