Solo Upgrade Season 2 premiere and -Awakening- gave fans a glimpse of the excitement to come. Now, popular voice actors Taito Ban and Reina Ueda reveal insight into the two most important characters of the season.
Solo Upgrade voice actors Taito Ban (Sung Jinwoo) and Reina Ueda (Cha Hae-in) sat down with Real sound to talk about season 2, discussing the evolution of their characters. Jinwoo’s path has been described as “not bright, and he is heading in a dark direction”, leaving Ban feeling “painfully sympathetic” to his character’s “unyielding feelings” and “desire to become stronger”. The voice acting industry has been described as a “world where you compete with what you were born with”, much like Jinwoo himself, who was limited by his class – unchangeable for the most part. Jinwoo is arguably Ban’s most important role, previously playing The angel next door spoils me rottenThis is Amane Fujimiya. This put a lot of pressure on him during the auditions. “If I can’t show it in this audition, I probably won’t get another chance to show it in the future,” he said. “If I don’t get the role here, it might be over for me.”

Ueda also explained the intricacies of Hae-in’s character, saying, “She stands up and tells her bosses what she needs to say. She’s a nice girl who doesn’t change her attitude based on what people feel.” Ueda added that she couldn’t relate to this, but relying on her fellow cast members made it easier for her to convey Hae-in’s strength. The couple teased season 2 by saying it wasn’t just about Jinwoo – something that Solo Upgrade Producer Souta Furuhashi talked about the last year – but also about spotlighting the anime’s larger cast.
“Season 1 focused on Jinwoo, so by recording with everyone, I felt that Season 2 is a series where we can finally feel, or at least appreciate, the strength of so many people, including Hae-in,” Ban said. Ueda added: “Starting in season 2, we start to see her [Hae-in’s] inner self little by little. We get a glimpse of her human side, and I think she’s not only mysterious, but also easy-going. I think we can also see the intricacies of her heart when she meets Jinwoo. ” Ueda shared in a previous interview that season 2 will show a “side of Hae-in that’s not so composed.”

The theme seems to be that the two characters’ encounters will allow viewers to see their inner thoughts, especially in the context of Jinwoo’s growing notoriety. True relationships will become rarer as he becomes stronger. Ban has hinted that many characters in season 2 plan to use it, including The System. “Even in Season 1, when someone directs a killing intent against them, the system orders them to eliminate them. Being guided by the will of a third party and killing others to gain abilities – even if the person doesn’t feel it herself, I think it might be a hollow way of using these abilities,” he said.
Sung Jinwoo’s eyes as Shadow Monarch have important meaning in solo leveling
Ueda drew attention to Jinwoo’s eyes when he acts as the Shadow Monarch, saying, “There must be some meaning here.” Ban echoed this, wondering why Jinwoo had a necromancer ability. “I think the ability of the ‘Necromancer’ to enslave the dead, or rather to control those he has defeated, actually has a fundamental significance to the work. As we will discover in the future, there is a sense about everything, including why he came to have this power Ueda said she felt sad when he used his abilities: “The fact that he ends up killing people makes it seem like he’s dying. acts as a path to becoming something other than human.”
Fans can stream Solo Upgrade Season 2 on Crunchyroll. According to Ueda, fans can expect a human side from Jinwoo, “ever-improving” production quality, music that stands out and matches the fight scenes, and much more.
