The 15 Strongest Vampires From Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Ranked

Before The Vampire Diaries And Real blood brought vampires back into fashion on television, Buffy the Vampire Slayer popularized the undead on television in the 90s. Buffy ran from 1997 to 2003, choosing to end while it was still at its peak instead of running out of steam, which is very respectable. Exclusive new comics, books and audio stories are still being made to this day about the fan-favorite Scoobies, highlighting the series’ enduring legacy and influence in keeping vampires cool. There is even an official beauty line created in collaboration with Juliet Landau (Drusilla) and Julie Benz (Darla).

As the titular Slayer, Buffy Summers had the weight of the world on her shoulders. Buffy is an inhumanly strong fighter, like a dark superhero who literally has a demon inside her that gives her such strength and abilities. Her extra strength is needed as she has to fight some of the more powerful vampires trying to take up residence in Sunnydale. Some of these vampires were so strong that they almost beat the Slayer herself.

Updated by Chen Drachman on December 28, 2024: Buffy lives in so many forms that it seemed necessary to take a look back and add additional entries to the list, examining strength from additional angles that go beyond physical strength.

The power of the Anointed lies in his role of prophecy

A wolf in sheep’s clothing

The Anointed One from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

What makes the Anointed One unique is the fact that he is a child. Her real power, or rather importance, was her role in the prophecy that predicted (accurately) Buffy’s disappearance by the Master. It was the Anointed One, or Collin, who led Buffy to the Master’s lair and her eventual death.

As Master’s apprentice, Colin received the wisdom of old. In addition to benefiting from the Master’s experience, Colin also demonstrated psychic abilities that not all vampires had.. After a resurrected Buffy kills the Master, her followers in the Order of Aurelius (a vampire cult that worshiped ancient demons) see Colin as her heir. Together, on his orders, they kidnap Buffy’s friends and recover the Master’s remains in order to perform a ritual to bring him back to life. Although Colin did not live long enough to reach his full vampire potential, his special powers and position as the leader of an order positioned him as a very strong vampire.

They had a system for killing freshmen, making it appear as if they had dropped out of school to avoid suspicion.

10 Secret Buffy Summers/Dean Winchester Connections Most BtVS and Supernatural Fans Missed

Buffy Summers and Dean Winchesters are two of the most famous monster hunters in television history, and that’s far from the only thing they have in common.

Fans may have expected that on Sunday she would find out she had the wrong freshman, but Buffy, being new to college life and off her game, isn’t doing very well. GOOD. In their first fight, Sunday is strong enough to beat Buffy and leave her with a sprained arm. In order to kick Buffy while she’s already down, Sunday enters Buffy’s dorm room and breaks the “Class Protector” award the Sunnydale students gave her. “The Freshman” also has a cameo appearance from a young Pedro Pascal as Eddie, another freshman who shares a scene and flirts with Buffy before unfortunately being turned into a vampire for Buffy to kill. Sure, Buffy ends up taking down Sunday and her gang, but the episode reminded viewers just how fresh new beginnings can be.

Luc held within him the powers of the Master

It took some trickery to bring him down

Luke fighting Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Luke was a secondary villain and ally of the Master in the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It belonged to the Order of Aurelius and was the Master’s vessel. Being the Master’s vessel made him stronger than the average vampire. He siphoned energy from his victims to strengthen the Master, sharing that strength himself.

When Luke first fought Buffy in “Welcome To The Hellmouth”, he managed to grab and throw her with one hand, break her stake in two, and trap her in a coffin. He almost bit her and if she hadn’t been wearing the cross necklace Angel had given her, Luke might have succeeded. It was the only thing stopping him. Buffy managed to turn the tide and enlist the powerful vampire during the ritual to bring back the Master by tricking him into thinking it was daytime.

Holden’s familiarity posed a danger to Buffy

Conversations with the dead are risky business

Holden from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the episode

Holden could have been just another vampire if not for the timing and circumstances. The psychology student recognizes Buffy as his old classmate from Sunnydale High School and the two begin to catch up and reminisce. Holden, who also has some martial arts experience, manipulates the situation into a therapy session, including a fun visual of a grave as a therapist’s office.

Throughout the episode, Holden does what Buffy didn’t even realize she needed: he listens to her and gives her clarity. She lets her guard down, lets herself become vulnerable, tells him things she feels he can’t share with her friends, and he takes advantage of it. In a particularly poignant moment, he uses his distraction and almost manages to kill her. In the end, however, Buffy kills him, but not before dropping a truth bomb about who fathered him, which hurts Buffy even more. Watching Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance, it’s clear to viewers that this is a murder that Buffy doesn’t feel good about.

Kakistos killed Faith’s Watcher

Even the Rogue Slayer was terrified of him

Kakistos the vampire from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Kakistos is a vampire so old that he has cloven hands and feet. He cannot disguise himself with a human face and still looks like the demon he is. Kakistos appears in Buffy Season 3, Episode 3, “Faith, Hope, and Trick”, to get revenge on Faith for blinding him in one eye and poses quite a challenge for the gang.

Kakistos was strong enough to kill Faith’s first Watcher in front of her, that’s why she blinded him. Buffy Fans know that Faith isn’t a character who backs down from a fight, but Kakistos is so powerful that even she fears him and tries to flee Sunnydale when she learns he’s coming for her. Kakistos also couldn’t be killed with a medium-sized stake and had to be stabbed with a support beam from the building they were fighting in to finally defeat him.

Harmony’s power lies in its influence

Still a fan favorite, she becomes a celebrity

Harmony Kendall from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel in her human (left) and vampire (right) forms.

Harmony, played by Mercedes McNab, was a popular girl at Sunnydale High School, one of Cordelia’s followers. She participated in the bullying, so some would say she was bad before she even became bad. As a young vampire, however, she retained her harmony, so she was never taken seriously and her plots failed spectacularly. It wasn’t until Harmony moved to Los Angeles that she slowly began to build a solid afterlife for herself.

In the Buffy comics, Harmony becomes a celebrity. She exposes the existence of vampires to the world, stars in her own reality show and gains a lot of following and power in the process. This newfound fame pushes her to become an advocate for vampire rights, sending her down the political path with her own activism. She becomes so popular (interviewed by Anderson Cooper and Stephen Colbert, participant in Dancing with the Stars) that society turns against the killers and supports the vampire cause. In doing so, Harmony deals more damage to Buffy and the Slayers than many other enemies of the past combined.

Vampire Willow was Willow’s polar opposite

It served as the first clue to Willow’s sexuality

Vampire Willow was first introduced to the Scoobies in Buffy Season 3, Episode 9, “The Wish”, where Cordelia wished for a world in which Buffy never came to Sunnydale. Since Buffy wasn’t there to stop the Master from getting up, the vampires took over Sunnydale. Vampire Willow is full of killings but also tortures Angel, considered the Master’s “pup” and a traitor of the vampires because he has his soul. Willow took out a pack of vampires on her own and easily led other vampires to do her bidding to the Bronze.

Vampire Willow appears again in Season 3, Episode 16, “Dopplegangland”. In the episode, Vampire Willow is outwitted by her human self and locked in the Werewolf of Oz’s cage. She also ends up being staked when she is sent back to her own reality. In this alternate timeline, Willow and Xander are a couple. Yet Vampire Willow is also incredibly flirtatious with her human self, hinting in season 3 that Willow was gay before human Willow accepted her.

Dracula’s unique abilities live up to their legends

A reunion of all my child lovers

Dracula looks confident in Buffy vs Dracula

This is a special episode of Buffy when the legendary Dracula visits the Slayer in Season 5, Episode 1, “Buffy vs. Dracula”. He wants to meet Buffy, because the legends about her are almost as great as those about himself. Dracula possesses many abilities beyond that of an average vampire, including his strength. When Dracula (played by Rudolf Martin, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s on-screen love interest in All my children) arrives for the first time in Sunnydale, he pierces the crate in which he is stored.

The 25 Greatest Dracula Movies of All Time

Dracula is one of the greatest monsters in modern pop culture. It has been recreated in several films and some versions are much better than others.

Dracula is also seen transforming into a bat and a wolf, materializing and disappearing at will, and hypnotizing people like Alex into doing what he wants. His powers of seduction are not to be disdained either, since he even charms Buffy enough to let him drink her blood. While researching, Willow mentions that he can also read minds and appear in dreams. Even at the end, when Buffy finally stakes him, Dracula reappears unharmed. Buffy tells him to leave or she will continue to stake him, meaning he is still roaming the Earth unlike most of Buffy’s enemies.

Drusilla has the power of clairvoyance at her side

The tragic vampire is unhinged due to trauma

Drusilla torturing Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Drusilla was an innocent and religious woman although human, but she was turned into a vampire and driven mad by Angelus. She is responsible for Spike’s transformation into a vampire; the two were inseparable for centuries. His human gift of clairvoyance was only enhanced upon becoming a vampire, which gave him an advantage over other vampires. She used her additional abilities to predict upcoming events, such as warning Spike of Buffy’s plans. This also proved useful when trying to gain information from people, such as when she hypnotized Giles into believing she was his love interest, Jenny Calendar, into confessing things to her.

Before performing the Vampire Restoration Ritual to cure Drusilla’s illness, she tortured Angel for fun, until he was needed for the ritual. She had an unpredictable and twisted childish nature, meaning she could play with dolls as easily as she could observe people in pain. When Angelus was soulless again, Drusilla massacred the residents of Sunnydale Mall alongside him. Drusilla was also strong enough to kill a Slayer, hypnotizing and slitting Kendra’s throat. To the delight of many fans, Drusilla survived in the comics.

Spike took down two killers

But he had a weakness for Buffy Summers

While Spike (James Marsters) changed his life at the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayerhe was initially introduced during season 2 as a villain. Spike’s nickname was “Bloody William” and his fame as a vampire was that he was able to kill two Slayersone during the Boxer Rebellion in China and the other on a New York subway in the 1970s. He and Drusilla also killed an orphanage before even meeting Buffy. His impatience with the Master’s attempted resurrection also led him to kill the Anointed One by burning him in the sun.

Although Spike could hold his own in a fight, his strength came more from intelligence and manipulation than physicality. He was a master at convincing other demons to align with him and do what he wanted. After his violent attack on Buffy in the episode “Seeing Red”, his disgust with himself led him to Africa to reclaim his soul. He had to go through the “Demon Trials”, a series of grueling physical and mental tests to prove that he is worth it if he survives. His strongest act came when he volunteered to wear and resist the Champion’s Amulet during the final battle against the Prime, where he ultimately sacrificed himself to save Sunnydale.

Darla is the matriarch of Buffy’s most notable vampires

Beloved of the Master, she fathered Angelus

Darla plays coy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Darla is best remembered by fans as the one who fathered Angel, who then fathered Drusilla, who then fathered Spike. But Darla herself was fathered by the Master, an incredibly strong and old vampire.. Being the eldest of Buffy’s most important vampires, Grandfather, also means that she is probably the strongest. She and Angelus loved chaos, and they caused or participated in it repeatedly for many years. Together, they took particular pleasure in emotionally and physically torturing others for entertainment.

Darla was also intelligent and manipulative, which caused Buffy to doubt Angel in the first season. But in the very end, her greatest strength was choosing her child over herself. After magically becoming pregnant with Angel, she shared a soul with her growing son. Realizing that after birth she would no longer have a soul and would no longer be capable of real, healthy love, in addition to understanding that her body might not be able to give birth, she committed in a final gesture of love. , which allowed Connor to be born.

4

The Master has centuries of experience

Older means wiser and stronger

The Master is in his underground lair in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The Master was Buffy’s first “big bad” antagonist to fight at the end of season 1. He was the leader of the Order of Aurelius, and because he is ancient, his vampire powers are much stronger than those of average vampires. The Master is said to have been turned into a vampire by one of the Ancients, so his bloodline is generally more powerful. This would also include anyone he fathered and beyond, like the aforementioned Darla.

The Master was strong enough to kill Buffy, disarming and hypnotizing her from fighting back in just a few minutes. Then he drank her blood and left her body in a pool of water to drown. The Master was also one of the only vampires who, when killed, left his bones behind instead of completely turning to dust. It was like a security for him, so that he could always be resurrected with his bones and the right ritual, as had been done before.

3

Angelus played against Buffy’s strength and her heart

It served as a metaphor for the man who changes after sexual intercourse

Angelus (David Boreanz) threatens Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

When Angelus first became a vampire, he massacred his entire town along with Darla, including his own family. He developed a reputation for his murder, which one Observer described as “sadistic”. For a time, he committed serial killer-like acts, earning the nickname “Pope” by murdering numerous women and carving crosses into their cheeks. Angelus was the one who fathered Drusilla and made her mad. He murdered her family in front of her and all the other nuns in the convent on the day she was supposed to become one herself.

In total, 14 characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer also appear in its spin-off Angel.

Even when he had his soul, Angel proved his strength in battle by fighting evil alongside Buffy. When Angel’s soul was lost again, his strength was as great as his cruelty. Angelus tried to drive Buffy crazy the same way he did Drusilla. He tortured her friends, stalked her, and sneaked into her house. He is also responsible for one of the most heartbreaking murders in the series by breaking Jenny Calendar’s neck and leaving her body in Giles’ bed. Angelus was strong enough to summon Acathla, open the gates of Hell and almost destroy the world.

Vampire Buffy would have been powered by Dobule

The potential that makes nightmares

Buffy Summers as a vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Nightmares

Over the many seasons of Buffy, fans have had the chance to see several favorite characters in their vampire versions. Vampire Willow, also on the list, is a beloved character. But nothing is more intriguing than seeing a vampire version of the Slayer herself. In the first season episode, “Nightmares”, Buffy is temporarily turned into a vampire after the Master buries her alive. It would have been interesting to see Vampire Buffy again in later seasons, when the series would have had a more solid foundation.

Viewers know that most vampires retain their powers and abilities from their human lives. Drusilla remained clairvoyant, Holden used Taekwondo while fighting Buffy. It’s safe to assume that a vampire Buffy would also possess all of the powers of a slayer. If that’s the case, even though fans haven’t seen enough of Buffy as a vampire, it’s highly likely that she’s the strongest vampire outside of Turok-Han, making up for it with her powers as a slayer. maybe he misses him. to be a young vampire.

The very first evil created the Turok-Han

Nicknamed Ubervamp for a reason

The Prime's vampire hybrid, Turok-Han, attacking Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Turok-Han, also known as ubervamps, may look like more basic vampire lackeys modeled after Orcs, but The First Evil created them as the first vampires to ever exist. The first Turok-Han was so strong that the ubervamp could track Buffy’s movements and even attacked her several times. An average stake couldn’t kill him, because it removed Buffy’s stake from his own chest.

He then attacked and killed one of the would-be killers when they arrived in Sunnydale. The Turok-Han spent a lot of time torturing Spike near the entrance to the Hellmouth since he was kept there to guard the entrance open. The Prime planned to unleash Hellmouth’s ubervamp hoard to take over Sunnydale. The Turok-Han were the toughest vampires yet, which spoke volumes about Buffy’s strength and experience in Season 7. The amulet Spike wore, which could create sunlight, essentially destroyed most of Turok-Han in the Season 7 finale.
